Congratulations to Carrigallen man, Councillor Paddy O’Rourke who was elected Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council for the 2014/2015 term at the annual meeting on last Friday.
The Summer Reading Tree project will commence in Carrigallen Library on Monday next, 16 June 2014. Please return completed forms handed out in the school to the library by Friday 13 June, or call into the Library to get an entry form. All children who read over six books will be awarded a Certificate and are in with a chance to win book prizes and an iPad. Final two shows
The Corn Mill Theatre Group will perform their final two shows of their 2014 All Ireland Drama Festival winning play The Devil’s Céilí in The Black Box Theatre, Galway on Friday, 13 and Saturday, 14 June 2014. The Late Hughie Murray
The untimely death of Hughie cast a gloomy shadow over the Carrigallen and surrounding areas. He took ill on Tuesday, 11 March 2014 and died on Sunday morning. Like many others in the early 60’s he immigrated to London where he made a successful living at groundwork and landscape gardening. He met his wife Mary and married in 1967. They had three children, Anne Marie, Brendan and Damien. They returned to their holiday home and farm in Portlongfield every year and sometimes twice yearly. He was predeceased by his only sister, Mary Ellen, seven weeks earlier, also by his brothers Noel and Michael, niece Carmel and his parents Eugene and Elizabeth (Bessie). He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter and sons; brothers John, James, Joe, all residing in London, Bernie in USA, Terry, Vincent and Peter in Carrigallen, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. St Mary’s National School are having a fundraising Bake Sale in the school on Friday next, 13 June 2014 from 10:00am to 11:30am. If anyone would like to bake something and drop it in to the school it would be very much appreciated plus come along and support them. Also, the Green Flag launch will take place at 12 noon on the same day.
Lotto results The draw was held on Saturday, 7 June 2014 and the numbers drawn on the night were 2, 6, 12, and 27. There was no Jackpot winner and the four winners of €50 each were Marion & Brendy Reilly, Vinny Lyons, Kevin Kennedy and Paddy Gray. Next week’s draw will be held on 14 June in Mitchell’s Bar and the Jackpot will be €12,100. Those in charge on the night are Rory Harte, Eamon Dolan and Killian Ward.
Road Race and Walk
The annual Carrigallen 10k road race and walk in aid of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland will be held on Saturday 5 July 2014 at 1:00pm. Currently they are seeking sponsorship or help with the following - marshals and helpers; spot prizes for the race winners; water stations set up with volunteers to help provide plastic disposable cups, water to the runners on the road; refreshments for the volunteers and runners after the event (sandwiches, tea, coffee, cakes, fruit). It is essential that those affected by muscular dystrophy, their carers and family members have adequate respite on a regular and frequent basis in order to support and maintain the physical and emotional health of all concerned.
Carrigallen Women’s Group are organising an outing to the Japanese Gardens, Newbridge Centre and Kildare Village Outlet on Saturday, 28 June 2014. Cost €40 includes admission into and tour of the gardens, bus and a four course dinner in Johnston House Hotel. To book your place a deposit of €20 to be paid to Yvonne Donohoe, Ann Reilly or Aine Gray before Saturday 14 June as a deposit is required to secure booking of meal and bus. The Latin School Players wish to bid a fond farewell for this season of Drama and to thank their loyal audiences who came out to support their Drama Group in this year’s production of Kevin’s Bed by Bernard Farrell.
