The death of Joe Reilly, Ballytrust, on Tuesday 7th January last caused widespread regret and sadness over a wide area. Joe who was aged 78 was a popular member of the farming community and had been ill for only a short time before he passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family at Cavan General hospital. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Nora, sons Luke, J.J. and Thomas, daughters Breige, Mary and Majella, and sister Peggy and members of his extended family circle. (see obituary). May he rest in peace.
Christian Unity Week 18th – 25th January “that all may be one” prayers are offered in an inter-church setting this week. Sunday last was World Day of Migrants and Refugees. We should be mindful of Christians of other denominations we know. We should also be aware of people from other cultures in our midst.
Catholic Schools Week
Sunday next 26th January marks the beginning of Catholic Schools week. The purpose of the week is to highlight and celebrate the wonderful contribution that Catholic Schools make to our local communities and Irish society in general. This year’s theme is “Places of Faith and Learning”. Grandparents Day will be celebrated in the local N.S. on Thursday 30st January at 11.30 am.
Regretfully Breda and Paddy Lynch have retired from caretaking in the local Parochial hall and a new caretaker is urgently now required. Anyone interested should conact the Parochial house as soon as possible, please call or phone 043.6683141. Groups are asked to note that for the time being bookings are being taken at Parochial house Monday – Friday 9 am – 4 pm. Please also confirm existing bookings so calendar of events can be updated for coming year. On behalf of the local community we wish to sincerely thank Breda and Paddy who did an excellent job in the hall, often going far and beyond the call of duty to ensure all went smoothly and we wish them a very happy retirement.
