Appeal for Syria
A collection will be taken up at all Masses on Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 November. Mass for the Dead
Thanks very much too all the people who attended in large numbers for this Mass on Friday 8 November in Abbeylara. Also sincere thanks to all the people who helped to prepare, organise and took part in the various parts of the Mass. Thanks very much also to the Parents Association of Abbeylara National School for looking after the refreshments.
The Club wishes to thank all who attended and took part in their recent Longest Pheasant competition on Sunday night the 3 November. Congratulations to the following winners 1st prize The Michael McCormack Perpetual Cup, Raymond Reilly Mullahoran with a bird of 42 inches, 2nd Padraigh Farrell, Molly, Aughnacliff with a bird of 40 inches and 3rd place to Dean Molloy Granard with a bird of 38 ½ inches. The Club prize 1st Richard Flynn, Abbeylara with a bird of 40 ½ inches, 2nd Andy Mc Manus, Mullinalaghta 37 ¼ inches, 3rd Dessie Flynn, Finea with a bird of 37 inches. Congratulations to Richard Flynn for winning the Vermin Control Frank Smith Perpetual Trophy for 2013. The Club also wishes to thank Josie and staff in Crawford’s Lounge for the use of the premises on the night and spot prize. Thanks also to our adjudicators on the night, Seamus Denning Street, Patsy Cooke Granard and John Boyle Molly. A good night was had by all.

Patrons of the Country Markets in Granard are asked to please take note that the market has moved from the Community Centre and will now be held in Gerry Kiernan’s premises on upper Main Street (beside Kiernan’s butchers). The Markets start at 8.30 am and continue until 11.00 am. They are delighted to announce that they now have beautiful handmade children and baby wear along with the usual stock of scarves, cards, jewellery, bread, cakes, firewood, etc.

A letter of thanks with supporting photos was received recently from Fr. Norbert Kinolo, Mpanga Parish, P. O. Box 14, Ifakara, Tanzania for supporting his collection appeal on Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 December 2012 which realised €753.30. As part of our Community Festive Celebrations and Gathering 2013 the Christmas Lights committee are hosting a Christmas Market on Sunday 8 December on Upper Main Street Granard. All surrounding local businesses are invited to come together in these challenging times to promote their seasonal wares in traditional market style. The Christmas Market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationary crib also. Local Carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will arrive to kick off the festive celebrations. Anyone wishing to take a stand is welcome to do so. The principal and staff of Ardscoil Phádraig would like to invite parents of fifth and sixth class students to our Open Night which takes place in the School on Thursday 14 November from 7 to 9pm. This will provide an opportunity for parents and students to see the School facilities and to meet the teachers.
