Patrons of the Country Markets in Granard are asked to please take note that the Market has moved from the Community Centre. The market now takes place in the premises on Upper Main Street between the Post Office and Kiernan’s Butchers. The market starts at 8.30am and continues until 11.00 am. At the monthly meeting of the guild last week - arrangements were finalised for the Federation Meeting and Cookery Cup competition due to take place on 19 November in the Family Centre Longford. This meeting will be hosted by Longford Town Guild. Members from Granard guild travelling should meet at the Community Centre Granard at 6.00pm.
The annual novena to prepare for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception continues each Wednesday evening in St. Mary’s Church Granard at 7.30pm. This solemn novena is well established now and everyone is encouraged to make an effort to attend for the last few sessions.
An information officer from Co. Longford Citizen’s Information Service will be in attendance at Granard Area Action Information Office, Main Street every Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The John Dungan Granard branch of Comhaltas Ceoltōirī Ēireann will hold their AGM on this Thursday, 14 November at 7.00pm in the Granard Area Action Group Office, Main Street, Granard. All members are requested to attend and new ones will be most welcome.
Ardscoil Phádraig will hold an open night on this Thursday night 14 November from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The principal and staff would like to invite parents of fifth and sixth class students to the Open Night. This will provide an opportunity for parents and students to see the School facilities and to meet the teachers. There will be a demonstration of iPads and ebooks on the night followed by the Principal’s presentations.

The Mulligan Sisters will perform Operatic and Sacred Arias along with Musical Theatre favourites in concert at the Church of St. Camillus, Killucan, Co. Westmeath on Saturday 30 November at 8p.m. Tickets €10 available at the door.
Granard Area Action Group will hold their annual Table Quiz in Fay’s Bar on Friday 22 November commencing at 9pm. The group sponsor the local Community Employment Project taking in the areas of Abbeylara/Bunlahy Granard and Mullinalaghta. As in previous years the local community are expected to fundraise a percentage of the costs of the project. This is the groups only fundraiser for the year. The event as always promises to be a fun night and your support is earnestly requested. Tables of 4 are €40. Valuable spot prizes. Refreshments will be served.

We will be having a Sale of Work on Friday 6 December in the Community Centre Granard starting at 9.00am. There will be a large range of items for sale and we already have collected many new and unused quality products so this would be the ideal opportunity to get that present for a great price. All proceeds from the sale will go to Rath Mhuire and Dolmen Services and we look forward to your support.
Moatsiders Active Age
At our next meeting on this Thursday 14 November we will be having our annual Mass for deceased members in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre This is a very important and special time for all of us and please note we will be starting at the earlier time of 2.00pm. Plans are also in place for our Christmas outing which will take place on Thursday 28 November and we will be going to the Backstage Theatre with dinner prior to the show. Thanks to Patricia McCormack, our regular yoga tutor for a really enjoyable session at our last meeting. We always give a warm welcome to new members so if you would like to join us in any of our outings or activities you can get in touch with Jackie at 043-6686309.
Our next meeting will take place on Monday 18 November we will be planning an earlier start as we intend to take a short outing and time and place will be confirmed with participants in the next week.

As part of our Community Festive Celebrations and Gathering 2013 the Christmas Lights Committee are hosting a Christmas Market on Sunday, 8 December on Upper Main Street, Granard. All surrounding local businesses are invited to come together in these challenging times to promote their seasonal wares in traditional market style. The Christmas Market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationary crib also. Local Carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will arrive to kick off the festive celebrations. Granard Happy Heart Walking club once again enjoyed the pleasures of nature on a bright crisp Saturday morning. It has been agreed that we keep our walks local over the Winter – no travelling. Duration of walk approximately 1 hour. Meeting at Higginstown Sports Complex Saturday at 10.15am. All paces catered to. New members of all ages welcome. See you Saturday.
