50 years of Drumshanbo VS

In less than a year Drumshanbo Vocational School will celebrate 50 years in existence!  Next September the school intend having a special 50th anniversary to celebrate. The school is putting together a magazine to commemorate this auspicious occasion and is looking for old photos, memorabilia and articles of happy memories. Thank you to the many past pupils’ reunions for their contributions to date.   Last year’s PLC business class has assembled all pupil data for the past 50 years from the school rolls and this, we hope, will be an interesting feature of the magazine.  Present pupils are interviewing relations and neighbours that were pupils of DVS to get a glimpse into the past and this should make for interesting reading! So start rummaging in those boxes in the attic or pick up a pen and start writing to us. All contributions are welcome. If using email send to dvsfifty@gmail.com

Billy’s World Charity

The launch of Billy’s World charity is on Friday night, 29th November in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, commencing at 7.30pm. The charity is being set up by Tony Byrne, Carrick-on-Shannon, whose five year old son passed away earlier this year. The charity hopes to raise enough money in the future to open a holiday centre in Carrick-on-Shannon for special needs children and their families, the first of its kind in Ireland. This would be a huge economic boost for the local area and an amazing experience for disabledthese children and their families. A wonderful night on the 29th is guaranteed, with champagne reception, wonderful prizes and music by “Oddity”. Your support would be hugely appreciated. Contact Jenny Gilmartin on 087-2040700 or Patricia Guckian on 087-7410202 for tickets (€15 each) or if you wish to make a donation to this worthy charity.
