Road traffic collision

On Sunday morning last, November 10th, shortly after 3.15am, units from Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service responded to a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the Castlepollard/Oldcastle road at Mooretown Cross, Castlepollard. Firefighters using specialist cutting equipment extricated the single occupant from the vehicle whilst working closely with paramedics from the Ambulance Service. The casualty was removed by ambulance to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar. Gardai were in attendance and the road was closed to traffic until after midday on Sunday.

Table quiz

Next Friday, November 15th, a Table Quiz in aid of Castlepollard Tidy Towns Committee will take place in the Hotel Castlepollard, starting at 8.30pm. 30.00 euro per table of four. The quiz is to raise much needed funds for the Committee’s ongoing projects.

Historical Society

A well attended meeting took place in Hotel Castlepollard on Thursday night, October 31st, with the intention of establishing an Historical Society in the North Westmeath catchment area. The North Westmeath Historical Society (NWHS) was established, and the following officers elected:- Chairperson - Rachel Grimes, Vice-Chairperson - Bill Ryan, Secretary - Russell Mellett, Tresurer - Muire Courtney-Earley, PRO - David Kelly. The next meeting will take place in Hotel Castlepollard on Thursday evening, November 28th, at 8.30pm. Membership is 15.00 euro per person. All are welcome.

Christmas Fair

This year on Sunday, December 8th, the Coole Yule Christmas Fair takes place in the newly renovated Hotel Castlepollard. there will be more than fifty different types of stalls, with artisan food producers, craft designers etc., being represented. A midday visit by Santa Claus is scheduled, and festive entertainers and carol singers wil be on hand to add to the occasion. Guest of honour at the Fair will be An Olivia Chocolate who recently won the overall prize at the 2013 Blas na hEireann taste awards during Dingle Food week, beating 2000 competitors. There are a range of free seminars planned during the day for food or craft entrepreneurs, hosted by Olivia Curran herself taking Q&A in the Seminar room, and there will also be presentations from Una D’Arcy from Connect Fore Communications on marketing small businesses online. Entry and parking are free, and there are ATM’s close by to enhance the shopping experience.
