Best wishes to local girl Emma Regan, Ballymorris, Granard as she embarks on her journey on Friday 6 September to Capetown South Africa where she will do voluntary work in The Stellenbosch Orphanage for a period of 17 days. While there, she will work with severely disadvantaged and malnourished children and will be bringing medical aid from Ireland as part of her donation. Emma wishes to thank most sincerely all those who supported her recent fundraisers, gave sponsorship and personal donations without which this trip would not have been possible.

Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard is currently enrolling for FETAC Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. These FETAC Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. They also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. Students may be eligible for further education grants and be able to retain their social welfare benefits subject to usual conditions. Takes place on Sunday 15 September in Clonmacnoise. The recommendations for the celebrations of the Year of Faith that came from the Holy See included celebrations in sacred places where pilgrims gather. The Pattern Day in Clonmacnoise is an event which actually fits what is recommended.
Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board (formerly VEC) is now offering advanced certificate in Business FETAC Level 6 (part time). This course is provided free under BTEI (Back to Education Initiative) and is particularly suited to unemployed people who have already worked in a supervisory capacity. 1798 Commemorative Weekend
County Longford will commemorate the 1798 Rebellion this weekend 6 to 8 September, with a variety of events in Granard, Ballinamuck, Ballinalee and Ardagh. The events commemorate the Battle of Granard on 5 September 1798 and the Battle of Ballinamuck on 8 September. This is the first county-wide commemoration of the key episode in Irish and local history. The programme gets under way on Friday, 6 September in Granard.
