GAA Fundraiser

The Carrickedmond GAA club are holding a fundraising draw which will take place in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule on Friday night next the 6th September. There are numerous prizes on offer including 1st prize, two tickets for either the All Ireland Hurling final or the All Ireland football final, 2nd prize six months club lotto subscription, 3rd prize Longford GAA hoodie, 4th prize O Neill’s football and 5th prize 2 tickets for the club dinner dance. The draw will take place at 10pm. Tickets cost only €5 each and can be had from any player or committee member. For further details contact club secretary Maraide Mc Donnell or any club member.

Classic Motor Cycle Run

The Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule defibrillator group would like to thank everyone who helped organise and who participated in the Abbeyshrule classic motor cycle run which took place on Sunday last. The event was a great success and all money raised will go towards running costs in the defibrillator group.

Folk Group Rehearsals for the Carrickedmond folk group continue on Wednesday evening’s and will in Carrickedmond church from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. Anyone who can play a musical instrument or who is interested in signing is welcome to come along. The date for the first folk mass will be announced soon and the group will sing at Sunday morning mass in Carrickedmond once a month there after.


To the Carrickedmond ladies U-12 football team and their management who were winners of the ladies U-12 summer league “B” final last week. This was a great success for this young team.

House Stations The autumn stations will commence next week and will take place in the following homes. Thursday 12th Sept in the home of Sean and Val Delaney at 8pm for the Toome area. Friday 13th Sept in the home of Caroline Ferry at 8pm for the Barry area. Friday the 11th Oct in the home of Jimmy Lennon at 8pm for the Currareehan area.

Annual Newsletter

All organisations and individuals who prepare items of interest for the annual Christmas newsletter please have it ready for Wednesday 30th October. Anyone with old photos of interest please contact Fr Tiernan.

Sincere Sympathy

Is extended to Catherina Carrigy Tenelick and family on the death last week of her father Anthony Courtney Drumlish. May he rest in peace.

School Mass

There will be a special mass for all pupils of St Sinneachs NS Colehill in Carrickedmond uniform for this mass. There will be a special blessing for the new junior infant’s class during this mass.

Clothes Collection

There will be a used clothes collection from the car park outside Colehill School on Friday 13th Sept at 9:30am. Everyone is welcome to leave bags of old used clothes, matched shoes, mobile phones and ink cartridges in bags beside the phone box. The collection will donate €3 per bag left out to the school.

Third Level Scholarship

Ballymahon and district credit union is now accepting entries for its third level scholarship. The scholarship is open to students who complete their leaving certificate exams in 2013, attend either Ballymahon Vocational school or Ballymahon Secondary school and who is a member of the Ballymahon and District credit union. Applicants must be commencing a FAS apprenticeship or a full time certificate diploma or degree course at any university, IT or approved level college. The scholarship will be paid at a rate of €1000 per annum for a maximum of three years. Entry forms are available from the credit union office in Ballymahon. Closing date for receipt of entries is the 28th September 2013.

Longford Toastmasters

Well done to the Carrickedmond Intermediate team who overcame the challenge of Rathcline in the semi final of the championship on Sunday last. This win qualifies the team for the Intermediate championship final which takes place in Pearse Park on Sunday the 29th September. Best of luck to all involved in their preparation for the final. We wish a speedy recovery to Patrick Farrell and John Lenehan who sustained injuries during the game on Sunday last, hopefully both make a speedy recovery in time for the final.
