Events taking place in Ballinamuck on Saturday 7 September. 12pm: Optional visit to the ‘Croppies Grave’ in Ballinalee, Co. Longford. 2.00pm: Unveiling of new information boards on the Battle of Ballinamuck, at ’98 Memorial Hall. With special guests Marianne Ziss, First Secretary of the French Embassy, and 1798 expert Stephen Dunford. 3.00pm: Walking tour of the battlefield to be followed by an optional visit to General Blake’s grave at Tubberpatrick Cemetery. Late afternoon: The anticipated arrival of ‘pikemen’ re-enactors from Co. Leitrim, dressed in the style of the 1798 Irish rebels. (TBC) 7.00pm: 1798 Remembrance Mass 8.15pm: Firing of the 1798 cannon at the Visitors’ Centre. 9.00pm: Musical entertainment in the ’98 Memorial Hall. As part of the 1798 comparative weekend .there will be a walk of the pikemen from Cloone to Ballinamuck .We are looking for people from the parish to join up with them and walk from the 98 bar to the pikemen statue .There will be a short meeting in the hall this Thursday at 9pm. Fundraising Draw The New Cemetery Committee are organising a Fundraising Draw which will take place in O’ Reilly’s Bar on Saturday 26th October. Prizes are 1. €1,000, 2. 32” TV, 3. €100 Voucher, 4. €100 Voucher, 5. €100 Voucher. Tickets cost €10 and are on sale now, tickets will also be sold door to door throughout the parish between now and 26th October. For further information please contact any committee member.
Olde fair Day
Our Fair Day was a huge success with lots of activities for everyone. A great day was had by all. The committee would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to everyone that helped out on or before the day, it is not possible to thank everyone here. A special thanks to all the stewards, helpers, vintage displayers, sponsors, anyone that gave donations, all musicians, dancers, everyone who sold lotto envelopes, Ballinamuck Enterprise for their support, our neighbouring parishes for help and assistance and everyone who attended.
The National Tidy Town’s results are being announced on Monday 9th September so best of luck to Drumlish and Ballinamuck. The judging period is almost over but that doesn’t mean we can take our eye off the ball. A lot of hard work has gone in to getting the Villages looking as well as it is now and we want to keep it that way! Litter is an on going problem so if anyone has any litter or dumping issues please phone the Longford Litter Hotline on 1850 434 450.
Tidy Towns in Ballinamuck Clean up for Commemmorative weekend, clean up organised for the 6th September from 6pm onwards for anyone who is able to attend, even for just a half an hour. We would like to make sure that the Village is looking its best for all our visitors.
