Back to school
Now that the new school term is with us once again, it is important to remember basic road safety. There will be delays due to school traffic in the mornings and afternoons, so make allowances for this. Those travelling to school by bicycle are urged remember that the rules of the road apply as much to them as other traffic, and bike helmets are always a good idea, as is hi vis clothing.
The death took place, peacefully, at the Cavan General Hospital, on Wednesday, July 24th, of Lillian Bower, Shrunehella, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at the Hospital Mortuary on Thursday, August 1st, with removal to St. Michael’s Church of Ireland, The Square, Castlepollard, for funeral service at 2.00pm. Internment took place afterwards to Killafree Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, service and internment was widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. As part of the Culture Day celebrations on Friday, September 20th, there will be a giant “Paint In” on The Square, Castlepollard, between 11am and 2pm. All local artists are invited to bring their easels and materials, canvasses, charcoals, watercolours etc, to paint or sketch whatever motivates them - there are no specific themes or subjects.
Householders are reminded to exercise caution when dealing with unexpected callers seeking personal information about their own or neighbours’ households such as numbers of occupants at home, work timetables etc. Telephone callers may claim to represent major companies providing telecoms or internet services. If genuine, such callers will already have such information and will not contact anybody requesting confirmation of same.
