COMMUNITY GAMES: Our Annual Sports Day will take place in Emmet Park, Clonee, on Saturday next, the 13th. April, 2013 at 11 a.m. sharp. All children living within the Killoe Community Games boundary are welcome to participate. We have all the usual events for both boys and girls to take part in:- Toddlers Race for U4, 60m for U6 and U8, 80m for U8, 60m hurdles for U10, 100m for U10, U12, U14, and U16; 200m for U10, 600m for U12, 800m for U14, 80m hurdles for U14, 1500m for U16, Ball Throw U12, Long Puck U12 Boys and U14 Girls, Shot Putt for U14, Discus for U16, and Javelin for U14. We have a number of novelty events for all age groups and we haven’t forgotten the mothers and fathers either - we have races for them also. All the events are free of charge and there will be a shop on site. Hopefully, the weather will be good and the sun shines on the day. Help from any parents would be most appreciated on the day. Our U14 Tag Rugby Team were competing in their Leinster Rounds on Sunday last, the 7th. April at Longford Rugby Club. They played Hacketstown in the semi-final and proceeded to the Final where they met Portarlington and ended up winning Leinster Silver Medals. Congratulations and well done boys and girls for representing Killoe. Many thanks to Turlough Farrelly, Steve Coy and Mary Morrissey who trained and managed the team. The County Final of the Pitch & Putt will take place on Sunday next, the 14th. April at 11 a.m. in The Acres, Ballinalee. Best of luck to all our competitors.
Drama: Cilloe Yew Tree Players wish to thank everyone who helped make their recent production “The Chastitute” a great success. With a full contribution by director Siobhan Bickerdike, all members of the cast and backstage crew made this event a resounding success. A sincere thank you to all who attended the play. Your support is always greatly appreciated.
Condolence: Sincere sympathy is extended to Elizabeth O’Donnell and families, Kellether, Killoe; Donlon families, Ballagh, Newtownforbes on the sad bereavement of their Mrs Elizabeth (Lizzie) Donlon (nee Beirne) who was laid to rest last week. Sincere sympathy to her daughter Elizabeth O’Donnell, son Mel, sister Kathleen, son-in-law Colm, grandsons Cormac, Fergal, extended family and friends. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Mary’s Church Newtownforbes with burial in the local cemetery. May she rest in peace.
ICA: Social dancing returns on Tuesday April 16 and continues every Tuesday from 8pm to 10pm in Ennybegs Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend. The ICA is sponsoring a Rose to go forward to the Longford Rose of Tralee competition. Lotto draw every second week. Winnings now stand at 200 euro. “The Gathering “ will be held in The Temperance Hall Longford wheire the Killoe guild will have a table displaying all their wares on Saturday June 29 and on Sunday June 30, a tea-dance will be held in The Temperance Hall from 3 to 6pm. All welcome.

Condolence: Sincere sympathy is extended to Olive O’Neill and families in Bantry, Cork on the sad passing of Olive’s husband John recently. Sympathy to his wife Olive (nee Reynolds, formerly Corlea, Killoe), sons Kevin and Paul, daughters Angela, Cora, extended family and friends. Burial took place in Bantry, Co Cork.
ICA: A reminder that the Longford Federation of the ICA is hosting an information meeting on Thursday April 25 at 7.30pm in the 98 Hall Ballinamuck, with Laura Shaw from Longford Garden Centre and Gary Brady, Environmental Officer from Longford County Council. Raffle plus tea and refreshments. Admission is €5 and all welcome.
