Dinner Dance: St. Mary’s G.A.A. will hold their Dinner Dance in the Piker’s Lodge Loch Gowna on this Saturday 2 February. Tickets are on sale at €30 each at Kearney’s, Fay’s and Macken’s or any committee member of the Club. Dinner will be served at 8.30pm sharp so please come early. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment.
St. Christopher’s: The next meeting of the Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s is to be held on Monday 4 February at 8.30 pm at the Credit Union Offices. Please note change of day from Tuesday to Monday. New members are invited and would be made very welcome.

Tidy Towns: Owing to the poor turnout at the recent AGM of Granard Tidy Towns it was impossible to elect a new committee. It was decided to try again at a re-convened meeting to be held on Monday next 4 February at 8pm in the Greville Arms Hotel. Those interested in their town are asked to attend.
I.C.A.: The guild will hold their next meeting on Thursday 7 February at 8.00pm in the Credit Union meeting room. Entrance to the room at the rear of the building. A guest speaker will attend on the night. All members are requested to attend and new ones will be most welcome.

Easter Festival: On Easter weekend – Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March, all roads will lead to Granard for the Easter Festival! An exciting schedule of events is planned for the weekend including a 5K Run, Novelty Tug-O-War, Easter Egg Hunt, parade, Artisan Food Fare, live music and lots of children’s entertainment! Thanks: The children parents staff and committee of Granard Community Childcare Facility would like to thank most sincerely St. Mary’s GAA for their fundraising initiative on St. Stephen’s Day. Anniversary Mass: A Mass for the repose of the soul of the late Liam Moore formerly of Barrack Street Granard will take place in Our Lady’s Manor Edgeworthstown on Tuesday 5 February at 11.00am.

Recycling: You can leave your Christmas cards into Granard Branch Library for recycling. This service continues for the month of January.
TTRS: This is a computer based course for children and adults with spelling and reading difficulties dyslexia and other learning differences. Learning is promoted by a multi-sensory approach: 1. A systematic programme of seeing listening speaking and typing. 2. Seeing the works written on the screen as they are typed out. 3. Hearing the words pronounced as they are typed. Vocational Schools Success: Congratulations to all concerned with the Co. Longford Vocational Schools who won the Leinster Inter County Final on Friday night last in Newtowncashel defeating Co. Kildare on a score of 2.10 to 2.04. The team are managed by James Carroll (Offaly) and Ryan Plunkett (Westmeath) both team trainers with Cnoc Mhuire Granard. Most of the County team are made up of players from Granard’s Cnoc Mhuire with the remainder from Ballymahon V.S. Ballymahon Convent and Lanesboro C.C. taking in players from four counties - Longford Westmeath Roscommon and Cavan. Captain of the winning team is Aidan McElligott from Mullinalaghta. We wish them every success for the future.

Birthday Celebrations: Congratulations to James Mulligan Creevy who celebrated a significant birthday on Saturday last in the Greville Arms Hotel Granard with family and friends.
Clonfin Commemoration: The annual commemoration takes place on Sunday 3 February at the Clonfin Monument at 3.00pm. The 11.30am Mass for the deceased members will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church Granard on the day. Refreshments will be served in McElvaney’s following the ceremony in Clonfin. All are welcome.
Historical Talk: Co. Longford Historical Society will hold their next lecture on Thursday 7 February in a new venue at the Sylvia Dawson Hall in St. Christopher’s Battery Road Longford. Lecture commences at 8.00pm. All are welcome and the evening is free.
Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to Fr. Michael Campbell P.P. Abbeylara on the death of his mother Mary Anne Campbell Cloonohill Drumlish who died on 23 January. Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Thomas’ Church Fearglass on Saturday followed by burial in Gortletteragh cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of the late Alice Daly Abbeylara who died on 24 January following an illness bravely borne. Alice was a very familiar figure in Granard where she was always involved in fundraising for St. Christopher’s Services and other organisations. Her body reposed at Connell’s Funeral Home Longford until removal to St. Bernard’s Church Abbeylara on Monday 28 January. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday morning followed by cremation in Dublin. May she rest in peace.
