Dromod

Dromod Garda station: Last Friday saw the closure of Dromod Garda station. All my life there has been a Garda resident in the station in Dromod and now due to cut backs our station remains with the door permanently closed.
Garda Joe Egan will now be stationed in Mohill Garda station. Down through the years the Dromod station has been home to many families, from my memory I recall those Garda and their families who resided there, Mick Kelly, Jim Sheridan, Ray Dooley, Michael Glancy, P. J. Derby and to date Joe Egan all lived in the station house and brought up their families there. There was always Garda presence in the locality this left locals feel more secure in their homes, now this is all gone and a fine structure of a building left to go derelict. The Garda station our neighbouring village of Rooskey remains open but the Garda on duty there must stay in Co Roscommon so therefore can not patrol just a few hundred metres from their base. All we can hope for is that at some stage this decision will be reversed and we might have once again a Garda in our local Garda station.
