SAINT BRIGID: On of Ireland’s great saints Brigid. Friday last first of Feb is the feast day of one of Ireland’s great saints Saint Brigid. Many local Carrigallen people made the annual pilgrimage to her well at Ballinamore and take back containers of water from her well which is used at times of animal illness and at times of lightening storms. The old custom of making crosses is still carried on of making the saint’s crosses from the lovely green rushes. The parents and children of Drumeela carried out the custom last weekend and had them on sale on Sun 3rd Feb at the three churches after mass and the proceeds went in aid of sight savers, what a lovely thought and congratulations to all. Feast of the presentation and blessing of candles took place in the 3 churches Drumreilly on Sat evening at 8pm, Drumeela Sun at 10am, Carrigallen Sun 11.30am. Sun last was also the feast of Saint Blaise. The blessing took place after all masses in the parish. Very large congregations were present of children and adults .Very Rev D Murray PP Officiated.
