HELICOPTER AIRLIFT: On Sunday morning last, November 25th, a local resident was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. At approximately 9am, an Aer Corps helicopter circled Castlepollard before setting down on the pitch at Castlepollard GAA Centre on the Pakenhamhall Road, where it was met by paramedics from the Ambulance Service who transported the casualty there for immediate evacuation to hospital.

THE LATE MR. J. CULLEN: The entire local community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place on Monday, November 12th, peacefully, at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, of Mr. James (Jimmy) Cullen, Slieveboy, Castlepollard. The remains were removed from the Hospital Mortuary, Mullingar, on Tuesday evening, November 13th, at 6.00pm, arriving at St.Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, at 6.30pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 2pm on Wednesday, November 14th, and interment took place in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Castlepollard. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. The deceased is survived by his sister Marcella, sister-in-law Molly, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to whom depest sympathy is extended.

CHRISTMAS MARKET: A Giant Christmas Market in aid of St. Michael’s Church of Ireland Restoration Fund will take place on December 8th and 9th in Tullynally Castle. Doors will open each day at 11.00am. Items for purchase will include home baking, knitted garments, wine, cheese, and much more. As a special treat, Santa Claus will visit each day. GARDENING CLUB: Castlepollard Gardening Club’s Christmas flower arranging festive evening will take place on Friday evening, December 7th, at 8.00pm in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard. Pat McKenna from Aughnacliff will be doing the demonstrations on the night and all arrangements will be raffled afterwards. Supper on the night will have a Christmas flavour and there will be a admission charge of 5.00 euro to cover costs. All are welcome.

CREDIT UNION AGM: Castlepollard Credit Union will hold their AGM on Monday, December 10th, at 7.30pmin the ParishCommunity Centre, Church Street. The Christmas Car Draw will be held at the AGM, and there will also be a draw confined to those attending the meeting on the night.

DEFIBRILLATOR COURSE: Anybody interested in participating in a Defibrillator Course as part of the Irish Heart Foundation AED Course shoud contact Betty Brady on 086-8789293. The course lasts for four hours and there will be a certificate presented on successful completion of the course.

FUNDRAISER: A “Ladies Night Out” in aid of the Collinstown Playground Project will take place in the Lough Lene Inn, Collinstown, on Saturday night, December 8th. Entertainment on the night will include a wine reception, dinner at 9.30pm, and music on the night will be provided by “Who’s The Boss”. there will be raffleprizes on the night. Tickets are priced at 15 euro each available from local business outlets.

CARERS ASSOCIATION WALKATHON: The Cooole/Whitehall Poc Fada Committee are inviting everyone to participate in their inaugural Bi-Annual Walkathon in aid of the Carers Association which will take place on Sunday, December 30th. The event will depart from the Castlepollard GAA Centre on Pakenhamhall Road, Castlepollard, at 2pm finishing at Coole Hall.

CAMOGIE FUNDRAISER: Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club are holding a fundraising Table Quiz & Auction in the Lough Lene Inn, Collinstown, on Friday night next, November 30th. This is an annual event and promises a great night of quizzing and craic.
