BIRTHDAY: Congratulations and best wishes to Olive McKeogh who celebrated her ruby birthday with a very enjoyable surprise party at her home last Saturday night. Her husband John played a blinder by keeping the occasion top secret yet succeeding in putting on a great evening for over one hundred guests much to Olives surprise. We wish her many more happy birthdays.

ROYAL CANAL: Despite the mixed weather patrons of the royal canal had a very enjoyable weekend. Up to twenty five boats assembled at Brannigan harbour on Saturday morning and made their way to Foigha where they tied up for an evening’s entertainment which was enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. Local man Tony Moran provided the music and vocal entertainment. The chips and burgers were an added attraction which was greatly appreciated by all present. The following moring (Sunday) the boats raised their anchors and proceeded to Mosstown harbour where they spent the day enjoying their surroundings and mixing with the locals. At least one boat present was over one hundred years old with many more in the vintage class. We look forward to their return in the not too distant future.

SUMR CAMP: A dance (all types) music sport art and drama Summer Camp will take place in the Dean Egan Library Ballymahon from Monday 23rd July to Friday 27th July 10am to 2pm. Chliden can be dropped off at camp from 9.30am. A similar Summer Camp will also take place in St Marys parish Hall Lanesboro from July 16 to July 30. THANKS: The Friends of the Children of Chernobyl wish to thank all who contributed to our church gate collection which totalled 345.20 euro. This money will help fund a month long holiday for 9 children who are currently in Longford. A big thank you to Mary and Micheal who helped on the day. Thank you all again.

GAA: There was an element of satisfaction in watching Galway beat Kilkenny in hurling in Croke park last Sunday afternoon. It was a good day for hurling. Many of the GAA fraternity here in county Longford could not be blamed for feeling a tinge of pride when Newtowncashel man Martin Skelly made his presentation speech and then presented the Leinster cup to the winning Galway captain . Well done Martin. Hope to see you present it to a Longford captain in the not too distant future(in football of course).

SPONSORED WALK: Longford Harvest festival committe will be holding a sponsored walk in the Kenagh area on Sunday July 15th starting in El Paso carpark at 12 noon.
