DEATH OF BERNIE GANNON: It was with great regret on Friday last we heard of the death of Bernie Gannon Carrigeen at Mullingar General Hospital following a short illness. Bernie as he was affectionately known was predeceased by his wife Kathleen one year ago. He was highly regarded and respected by all who knew him. A very talented musician who travelled widely with his accordion entertaining people of all ages and at all types of venues and functions. For many years he was also a member of the well known and popular “The old nightingales” some who have also passed away. Bernie was a carpenter by trade and was a perfectionist at his work. He was also capable and meticulous farmer. He will be missed by all that knew him but especially by his family of nine children ,sons Bernard Kevin John and Padraig ,daughters Frances Sylvia Ita Geraldine and Loreto,grandchildren great grandchildren relatives and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. Bernie’s removal took place on Saturday evening to St Marys Church Legan and he was laid to rest on Sunday following requiem Mass in the new cemetery. May he rest in peace.
ST PETER’S WALKING GROUP: The newly formed Legan walking group is now known as St Peters which represents nobody is left behind. No need to worry about the feet knees or hips as nobody will be left behind. There are two types of walkers a shorter walk for those who have not reached full fitness, a longer walk for the more conditioned participants. This week’s walk commences at Abbeyshrule air field at 10am on Saturday . All welcome.
CEMETERY MASS: This Friday July 13th cemetery mass and blessing of graves takes place in Kilglass at 8pm.
INNY ANGLERS: Results of Lotto draw held in Mitchells for a jackpot of 1800 euro. Numbers drawn were 2,13,and 26.There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners were Andrea Matthews and Noel Frawley. This week’s draw takes place in Sloweys.
BARBECUE AND PIG ROASTING: Legan Sarsfields GAA is hosting a barbecue and pig roasting in Mitchells Legan on Saturday July 23 21st. Tickets are on sale from club members and usual outlets.
GAA: Lotto draw was held in Conaughtons Rathowen on Monday July 2nd for a jackpot of 4600 euro. Numbers drawn were 11,23,26 and 27.There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of 50 euro each were Bridgie Boylan and Kate Ann Moran. This week’s draw took place in Sloweys on Monday and results will be published next week.
GREYHOUND SUCCESS: The combination of Joe O’Neill and Paddy Donnelly once again made headlines with success on Friday night in Longford Greyhound track. Joe’s dog was successful in winning the Reserve Derby while Paddy’s greyhound was victorious in the Sweepstake. Well done to both trainers.
