Loch Gowna

SYMPATHY: It was with regret that we learnt of the death of Rosaleen McNamee Arnaghan Loch Gowna which occurred at Sheeling Nursing Home Moutnugent on Thursday 19th April in her 96th year. Rosaleen worked for many years nursing in England and was one of the oldest members of Loch Gowna community. Her remains were removed from Finegans Home Cavan on Friday evening to the church of Holy Family Loch Gowna and following requiem Mass on Saturday. Burial took place in adjoining cemetery. To her nephew nieces relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. May she rest in peace.

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Ann Marie Lynch Dernaferst Loch Gowna who was crowned New York Rose at the selection event in Empires Casion Yonkers recently. Ann Marie who now lives in Woodlawn New York is daughter of Eamon and Aileen Lynch Dernaferst Loch Gowna. We wish her continued success.

FISHING COMPETITION RESULTS: Results of senior pike fishing competition that took place on Aughanoran Lake on Sunday 22nd April. 1st Joe McDermott Longford; 2nd Kerrie Lee Dring; 3rd Barry Darby Mullingar; 4th John Boyle North Longford; 5th Alan Smith Gowna; 6th Michael Dalton Athlone. 20 boats took part. Results of Junior fishing competition hosted by Loch Gowna/Upper Erne anglers that took place on Derries lake on Saturday 21st April. 1st Kerrie Lee,Aaron O’Reilly and Killian O’Reilly Gowna; 2nd John Scott Aodhan Walsh Ben Brady and James Heaney north Longford; 3rd David Smith Denn Ryan McLoughlin Noth Longford. Heaviest fish 1st Dylan Murphy Denn; 2nd Kerrie Lee Dring; 3rd Kayleigh Lee Arva; 37 junior fished from 16 boats. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day to make this competition a very enjoyable day for all juniors taking part.

BLOOD DONORS WANTED: Irish Blood Transfusion service newsflash. Blood donors wanted now to save lives. One in four people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. Every day patients in hospitals throughout Ireland require blood transfusions. sometimes it may be for a routine surgical procedure such as a hip operation. Other times it may be for someone recovering from a road traffic accident,major surgery such as a heart bypass or perhaps a blood transfusion is needed to enable a patient to tolerate effects of cancer treatment. The Irish Blood Transfusion service (IBTS) provides the blood and blood products needed in hospitals to help these patients. Every week 3000 donations are needeed in Ireland. A coronary artery bypass may use between 1 and 5 units of blood. A car victim may require up to 30 units of blood, a bleeding ulcer cold require anything between 3 and 30 units of blood. An average adult has between 10 and 12 pints of blood. A blood donation is just 470mls - less than one pint. If you’d like to help there is an opportunity to give blood at the IBTS mobile clinic in St Brigids community centre Loch Gowna Wednesday 27th June 2012 & Thursday 28th June 2012 from 5pm - 8.30pm.
