Red Cross News: New Addition to the Irish Red Cross Longford Branch. We are delighted to announce the arrival of the new Red Cross Ambulance to our branch. This ambulance will be very beneficial to us, when on duties and helping in the community. The money for furnishing the ambulance was made due to our church gate collection, bag packing and Halloween party.A huge thanks to all who helped out with fundraising! EFR Exams: Well done to all who completed and passed their EFR exams on February 5th. Congratulations to our leaders Barry, Caroline and Jacinta on passing with flying colours! Change Of Day: We would like to remind all parents and members of the Longford Branch of the change of day from Wednesday to Tuesday. This is for a 6 month trial period so that more leaders will be available to help out. Teddybears takes place from 7 - 8 p.m., followed by Cadets from 8-9p.m. Thank you for your co-operation. New Members Welcome: Irish Red Cross training takes place every second Tuesday in the Thomas Ashe Hall, Ballinalee. All new members welcome, aged 5 and upwards. PITCH &PUTT: Membership for 2012 is now due. The official season starts in March 1 and you must be a member to play official competition. New members always welcome. Contact Michael Stephenson.

WEDDING BEELLS: The pretty wedding took place on Sat last in Holy Trinity Church of Andy son of Sean and Teresa McNamee Drumderg and Martina daughter of Patsy and the late Maureen Brady Kilshrewly. The ceremony was celebrated by Fr Brennan and concelebrated by Fr Beglan. The best man was the grooms brother Sean and groomsmen were Michael Brady and Colin Fox. The chief bridesmaid was Sinead Manning and bridsemaids Jenny McNamee and Claire Murtagh. Music in the Church by Aisling Wrynn. All the guests enjoyed a beautiful meal in the Landmark Hotel Carrick on Shannon and danced the night away to the sound of Night Fever. We wish the happy couple many years of health and happiness in their new home in Aughaward.

5 CARD DRIVE: On Friday 2nd of March there will be a fundraising card drive in aid of Maguire Park Development in the Stags head. 30 euro in prizes.Tickets 5 euro.

WALK: Well done to all who participated in the sponsored walk . A total of 1700 euro was raised. Well done to Eugene Murtagh jnr who was first home in the run.

BALLINALEE GOLF SOCIETY – 07/02/2012: AGM. The Ballinalee Golf Society held their AGM on Friday 2012 in Rawles Bar & Lounge. Food & refreshments on the night were provided by Neil Rawle. Outgoing captain Eugene Murtagh thanked all the members and guests for their support throughout 2012. Also mentioned was the successful recapture of the Ballinalee/Drumlish cup following the annual competition held back in November. The new incoming captain James Vesey wished the society every success and welcomed all new members and guests for 2012. The committee for 23012 was voted in as follows president : Michael Cahill; Vice president Des Reynolds; Captain James Vesey; Vice captain Robbie Fox; secretary Eoin Fagan; treasurer Seamus Coyle & Padraig Farrell; handicap committee Neil Rawle & Michael Forde; Juvenile sponsor Simon Galeford; PRO James Vesey. The society’s first outing of 2012 will take place on Sat 25th February 2012 at Moate Golf Club, tee off 8.30am.

ASSOCIATION: The Longford Executive of IFA are holding an open regional meeting with emphasis on livestock commencing at 8.30pm. Thursday 23rd February in the Stags Head Ballinalee. Topics will include beef discussion single farm payments/CAP reform disadvantaged areas scheme farm schemes- REPS/AEOS, beef and cattle prize prospects for 2012 septic tanks and turf cutting.
