CULTURE NIGHT: Culture night was celebrated all over Ireland last Friday and here in the Corn Mill theatre Carrigallen a wonderful night’s entertainment was enjoyed by all. The performances were provided by many local and very talented young artists. It began with music and song performed by the very talented group Ril Og under the direction of musician Padraic Lynch followed by Maria Matthews member of Ril Og who is a trained classical singer sang her beautiful pieces accompanied by Jack Wiliamson on piano. Paula Kieran sang some songs from her debut album ‘A country Voice’ which was launched on the night and all proceeds are going to the Childrens Hospital Temple Street and still available in shop outlets locally. Then the Finnegan school of music entertained the audience with an array of reels jigs and polkas,ending the night Leitrim Youth Theatre Company Carrigallen performed extracts from their forthcoming performances. The plays are part of a devising technique which is facilitated by Maura Williamson and Yvonne Heynemann and are written by Barry Taylor and Jack Williamson members of LYTC Carrigallen. MC for the night was Brian Reilly. Congratulations to all the children from St Marys National School Carrigallen and Drumeela National School who took part in the art competition “Culture in our County”. The standard of art was very high and winners were decided by the artistic eyes of Coleen Quinn and Martin Doyle. The following children won a voucher each for 50 euro - Sarah Hackett and Louise Hession,Carrigallen NS and Grace Crovar Weronika Wrzesniewska and Tanisha Maguire Drumeela NS.
PUB QUIZ: Following the semi finals the following two teams have made it trough to the final of the Home & Away pub quiz in Kilbracken Arms Hotel and Charley Farrellys. The fist round of the final will be held in Farrellys pub on Saturday 8 October 2011 at 10.30pm sharp. While it is a fundraiser event in aid of Margaret of New Orleans birthplace in Tully Carrgallen ,the trophy designed and presented by Martin Doyle is a perpetual trophy to the memory of Aiden Harte,the original and number one quizmaster. The trophy is called the Aidan Harte Perpetual trophy. Quiz master is Tony Fahy. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
