Deaths

Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the souls of: Sheila Burke, Springtown, who died on Monday, 7 September, Mary Somers, Foxrock, Dublin 18, who died on Monday, 7 September, sister of Fr. Peter Burke, P.P. Ferbane, Co. Offaly. May they rest in peace.

Divine Inspirations

Divine Inspirations from Jesus and Mary, or the Love of Mary will take place on Wednesday, 23 September in Abbeylara Church at and after the 7.30pm Mass. Geraldine and Fr. Eugene Sjondi (Chaplin) will be present along with Michael Scahill. Padre Pio Mitten will be available for blessing of people at the 7.30pm Mass. This is Padre Pio Feast Day.

The Parents Association are holding a Fundraiser. There are Hampers for raffle in Granard Credit Union and Macken’s Filling Station, Granard. Tickets cost €2 per strip or 3 for €5. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

St. Bernard’s N.S. Abbeylara are holding a clothes collection of Unwanted/Used Men’s, Women’s and Children’s Clothing, Shoes, Belts, Handbags, Ties, Linens, Household Textiles, Stuffed toys etc., (Mobile Phones placed in a separate bag)  on Tuesday, 6 October. Your support would be appreciated.

5K/10K Family Fun Run/Walk

A 5K/10K run and family fun walk will take place at Derrycassan woods (beside the Mullinalaghta GAA pitch) at 12.00pm on Saturday, 19 September.  The event is being organised by Mullinalaghta GFC. Registration will take place on the day from 10.30am. The entry fee is €10 for ordinary runners and walkers, with a €15 fee for chipped runners who want to be able to get an accurate timing of their run. The course takes place on a circuit through the well-known woods at Derrycassan, following picturesque paths through the former Dopping-Hempenstall estate, and starting and finishing at The Laurels (the grounds of Mullinalaghta GFC). Parking and stewarding will be provided on the day with refreshments available for participants after the run at the clubhouse. All are welcome. An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

St. Christopher’s Services

The Granard Branch of St Christopher’s Services is holding a grand raffle for two tickets for the One Direction’s concert in the 3 Arena in Dublin on Sunday 18 October. Raffle tickets cost €5.00 each and can be purchased from Super Value, Granard, or any committee member. The raffle will be drawn at a function at John V Donohue’s on 19 September when there will also be other prizes. Hope you will give this great event your support.

Classes

Active Age

We will be having our first get together after the summer break on Thursday, 24 September in the Sports Centre.  We have decided to meet in the afternoon from 2.30pm to 4.00pm.  There have been a lot of enquiries about our group during the summer and we are looking forward to meeting the many new faces on the 24th. Refugees from Syria

Our Bishop Francis Duffy has requested that each parish in our diocese hold a Pastoral Council meeting, to consider how each parish could respond to Pope Francis’ appeal, to welcome a family of refugees into each parish. Please contact any Pastoral Council member with your ideas and views.

CU Factor 2015

Due to its huge success last Year Granard Credit Union Launches Talent Contest CU Factor 2015 - Have you got the CU factor, if yes you could be on your way to winning a cash prize courtesy of Granard Credit Union. 12 to 19 year olds in Granard area are being invited to share their talents. The talent show is open to all dancers, singers, bands, jugglers, comedy acts etc. The closing date for applications is 25 September 2015. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday 26 September and the local final will take place in Granard Community Centre on Saturday 3 October. The top two acts will go forward to represent Granard Credit Union in the regional final on Saturday 24 October in Ballinasloe Application forms are available from the counter in Granard Credit Union.

Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €20,000 in 42 numbers; there is a second Jackpot of €2,500 in 46 numbers, come along early to avoid the rush. Seats are limited so come along early and enjoy the fun. Lough Derg

A bus will travel to Lough Derg on Saturday, 19 September from Carra Church for a one day pilgrimage on the Island. Cost for bus, Lough Derg facilities and services which include refreshments is €50. Memorial Walk

Rita Nannery Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday, September 21 next starting at Mullahoran Church car park at 12.00 noon. Registration takes place at 10.30am, suitable for all ages. All Proceeds to Bothar and the local Apostolic Society.

Strictly Come Dancing

Takes place in the Park House Hotel on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September in aid of Longford Palliative Care and Mostrim Community Games. 26 of fine men and women form the town are taking to the stage to show off their new dancing skills. Friday and Saturday night shows are sold out and there are only a few tickets left for Sunday night. Tickets cost €15 each, so if you want to see the best shown in town, Contact Majella on 087 7207880. This is a “ticket only” event and you cannot pay on the door. So hurry while tickets last!!

Grow Personal Development Course

A four-week Personal Development Programme will start in Lus Na Greine on Monday evenings starting 28 September and ending on October19. This is a great opportunity to become more mindful and self-aware and take time out to care for yourself. Bookings are now being taken at the centre. A Teenage Parenting Programme (Triple P) will also be delivered in the centre starting on September 15. This is a free evening programme that supports positive parenting, and enhances family life and communication within the family. Bookings can be made through the centre.

Adult Learning Centre
