Ireland’s Biggest Coffee morning takes place on this Thursday, 17 September. In Granard Mary McInerney and friends are hosting a coffee/tea morning in the Community Centre Barrack Street from 10am to 12.30pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated. All proceeds go to Co. The Granard Branch of St Christopher’s Services is holding a grand raffle for two (2) tickets for the One Direction’s concert in the 3 Arena in Dublin on Sunday 18 October. Raffle tickets cost €5.00 each and can be purchased from SuperValu Granard or any committee member. The raffle will be drawn at a function at John V. Donohue’s Lounge on Saturday the 19 September when there will also be other valuable prizes. Hope you will give this great event your support.

The John Dungan Branch of Comhaltas will hold their AGM on this Thursday, 17 September at 8pm in the Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main Street Granard. The John Dungan branch is due to host the County Fleadh in May 2016 in Granard. In order for this to be a success we need new enthusiastic committee members who are willing to get involved. We hope to bring our Irish music/culture to the fore in celebrating the 1916 centenary. Please show your support in keeping our tradition alive by attending the meeting on Thursday the 17 September.
To celebrate Culture Night, Joe Callaghan CCE and John Dungan CCE are hosting an evening of music, song and dance in the Ardagh Heritage Centre on this Friday evening 18 September 2015. The evening will commence with a Junior (slow) session from 8 to 9p.m. and all young musicians, of all levels, are encouraged to come along and join in. The Senior Session starts at 9.00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot now stands at €20,000 in 42 calls or less. The second Jackpot is €2,500. Your continued support is appreciated. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.A.A.

Mullinalaghta G.A.A. are hosting a run/walk at Derrycasson Woods set in 180 acres of woodlands on the shores of Lough Gowna, beside the football pitch on Saturday 19 September at 12pm. Dancing classes for boys and girls 4 years plus. Children get the opportunity to participate in team and solo dancing for competition, grade examinations and for fun. Due to its huge success last Year Granard Credit Union Launches Talent Contest. Factor 2015 - Have you got the CU factor, if yes, you could be on your way to winning a cash prize courtesy of Granard Credit Union. 12 to 19 year olds in Granard area are being invited to share their talents. The talent show is open to all dancers, singers, bands, jugglers, comedy acts etc. The closing date for applications is 25thSeptember 2015. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday 26 September and the local final will take place in Granard Community Centre on Saturday 3 October. The top two acts will go forward to represent Granard Credit Union in the regional final on Saturday the 24 October in Ballinasloe.

Siopa Lus na Greine
Our Siopa is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your cast offs, bric –a – brac etc. these can be dropped to An Siopa. All proceeds from An Siopa go directly to the Centre to fund projects in the Community.

Moatsider’s Active Retirement Group
Our first meeting will be taking place on Thursday 24 September at 2.30pm in Rath Mhuire Centre and we always give a warm welcome to new members. We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family of Bina Murtagh. Bina was a longstanding member of our group, she was wonderful company and we enjoyed her friendship greatly, we will always remember her with great fondness. May she rest in peace.
Rath Mhuire Men’s Social Club
The club resumed on Tuesday 15 September in Rath Mhuire Centre at 12.30pm and were busy organising their Autumn activities. New members are very welcome, good company and good food will also be provided.

Congratulations to St. Mary’s and their management team who defeated Carrickedmond in the Junior B final on Sunday last in Glennon Bros. Pearse Park.
The death of Sheila Burke, Springtown, Granard occurred on 7 September at Mullingar Regional hospital. Removal took place from her late residence to St. Mary’s Church Granard on Tuesday evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday morning following by burial in Granardkille Cemetery alongside her son Sean. Sympathy is extended to her husband Tom. Son Mark and daughter Clare; Grandchildren and extended family circle. May she rest in peace.
