PARADE - Thursday of next week the 17th March is St Patrick’s Day and a national holiday. As usual all towns in the area will host the annual St Patrick’s Day parade. In nearby Ballymahon the organising committee are busy at present putting the final touches to the Ballymahon town parade and they invite everyone from the parish to come along on St Patrick’s Day and enjoy what promises to be a great family day out. On Thursday night last in Kenagh our U13 girls soccer team played Enfield Co.Meath in the first round of Leinster.The game got off to a great start with us getting a penalty in the first minute. The Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule defibrillator group have organised a training night for people who wish to train up on CPR and on the use of an AED. This class which is free to participants and open to everyone from sixteen years up will take place in Carrickedmond parish hall on Monday night the 21st March commencing at 7pm.

The group have also set the date for their upcoming AGM which will take place in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule on Thursday night the 12th May ’11. More information nearer the date.
The Carrickedmond badminton club would like to thank everyone who helped their table quiz fundraising night a great success on Friday night last in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule. All money raised will go towards the running costs of the club for adult and junior members.
Congratulations to James Bannon TD Legan on his recent success in the general election for the Longford/Westmeath area. We all wish James good luck as he now prepares to commence his term representing all the people of Longford and Westmeath in Dail Eireann.
Sympathy is extended to Jimmy Mitchell and the Mitchell family on the recent death of Jimmy’s brother John who passed away in Mullingar hospital following a long illness.
John’s remains were removed to Abbeyshrule church and his burial took place in the local cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Newtowncashel Drama Group’s production of “Canaries” by Bernard J Farrell will be staged again in “The Hill” on Friday 11th March due to popular
demand. Doors open at 8.00pm. Curtain 8.30pm sharp. Admission is strictly by ticket only. Adults 10 euro and Primary Children 5 euro. Tickets available from Kevin Casey at 086 843665. The play contains adult humour which may not be suitable for children.
The Carrickedmond GAA lotto jackpot is now worth over 17,500 euro. The lotto draw takes place in the GAA complex on Tuesday nights and each envelope with four numbers costs 2 euro. Envelops are available from any committee member or can be purchased in the local MFS shop in Carrickedmond.
