Drumlish/Ballinamuck March 11

THANK YOU - The South Leitrim and Longford Harriers Charity Hunt took place in Drumlish a few weeks ago. Sincere thanks is expressed to the farmers and landowners in the area for their co-operation and support. Thanks also to Tom Cassidy Village Inn and Joe Farrell the Bent Elbow for the refreshments supplied before and after the Hunt.

The Auction which followed the Hunt raised €2,700. This money is going this year to two local charities – Drumlish Senior Citizens and Drumlish National School (to help pay for the new computers).

QUIZ NIGHT

A Quiz night in aid of Haiti will take place in Dillon’s Ballinamuck on Friday night next 11th March at 9.30pm. Tables of 4 €40. Cash prizes and plenty of spot prizes to be won. All proceeds going to the Haitian disaster fund.

BALLINAMUCK ICA

Congratulations to Anna Corrigan a member of Ballinamuck Guild, who will represent Longford Federation ICA in the National Final of the Gempack Baking Competition in An Grianan on Friday 18th March. Anna will have to bake an 8” round light fruit cake using Gempack ingredients. All the ladies in the Guild wish her every success in the final.

The Guild has invited John Keane, Senior Fire Officer with Longford County Council to speak to us about Fire Safety in the home and in Business. Everybody welcome to attend. Check out next week’s Parish Newsletter for more details.

MONSTER BINGO

Sincere thanks to all who supported the Monster Bingo on Sunday last in ‘98Hall Ballinamuck in aid of St. Vincent’s Minor Club. €3,500 was the prizw money. Hope everyone enjoyed it.

ASH WEDNESDAY

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday – the First Day of the Lenten Season. The season begins with the blessing and distribution of ashes – a season of renewal, rebirth and penance; of prayer, fasting and almsgiving – we might like to pray with the Prayer Group in Ballinamuck on Mondays, go to Mass some week-days, pray for an hour in Eucharistic Adoration; fast on Fridays; be conscious of those less well off than ourselves – Trócaire boxes and our neighbours – the greatest gift we have isourselves and our time)Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church Drumlish at 7.30pm and in Ballinamuck at 7.30pm. The choice is yours.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The Stations of the Cross will be prayed publicly in St. Patrick’s Church ballinamuck at 7.00pm every Friday during Lent.

RECENT DEATHS

McNally: The death took place peacefully at her residence Drumlish Hill on March 3rd of Breda Mc Nally (nee Kellegher). To her husband Michael, daughter Michelle, brother Billy, sisters Von Corrigan & Patricia Dolan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces relatives and a large circle of friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. Breda was laid to rest in the Old cemetery drumlish on Sunday last. May she rest in Peace

Simpson: The death took place recently of Martin Simpson formerly Cloonaugh . To his family relations and friends we extend our sincere sympathy. Buriel took place in the New Cemetery Drumlish on Monday last.

TIDY TOWNS
