The Granard Branch of St Christopher’s Services have organised a play by Seamus O’Rourke  - “Padraig  Potts Guide to Walking” on the 20 February in the Community Centre, Granard at 8.30 pm. There will be a raffle and door prizes. Tickets cost €10 and are available from Committee members or on the door. Please support us and have a great night.

Table Quiz

Killasonna N.S. Parents Association are holding a table quiz in the Crossroads Inn Lisryan on this Friday, 20 February commencing at 9.00pm. Your support will be appreciated.

Bingo

The proceeds of the Bingo on Wednesday 11 February went to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund who help families bring home their loved ones who die abroad. The Fund assisted the Cadden family, Loughduff on the occasion of Martin Cadden’s untimely death in New Zealand recently. €2,500 was raised on the night. Thanks to everyone who supported. Bingo continues as usual on this Wednesday night at 8.45pm. Jackpot is €19,200. Your continued support is appreciated. Proceeds to St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara G.A.A.

Federation meeting takes place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Tuesday next 24 February hosted by Legan Guild. Members of Granard Guild travelling to this meeting please meet at Community Centre Barrack Street at 6.30pm. Competition items are as follows: Leek and Potato Soup; Bookmark in any medium and Cushion Cover. Next guild meeting takes place on Thursday 5 March at 8.00pm in the Credit Union Seminar Room at 8.00pm. Guest speaker on the night from RSA.

SVP Shop

The opening hours for the St. Vincent de Paul Shop, Lower Main Street, Granard are as follows: Each Monday from 10am to 2.00pm. First Tuesday of each month 10.00am to 5.00pm. Every Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday from 11.00am to 5.00pm. Contact No. 085-1503985.

Arthritis Longford Branch

We are running the following courses which are adapted exercises suitable for people with arthritis or other limitations: “Chair Yoga” New course Wednesday 25 February at 11am in the Family Centre Longford. 6 sessions for €50. The annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from Wednesday 27 May to Monday 01 June 2015. Departing from Knock Airport. Assisted pilgrims wishing to travel should contact their local parish priest. Country Markets

Granard country markets held a free draw for St. Valentine’s day and the following were the winners Gabriel Devine, David Feely and Joseph Kelly. The Market continues every Friday morning at upper Main Street.

Rural Transport

Longford Westmeath Community Transport Ltd. Rural Transport “door to door” services have spaces available for passengers who wish to travel to their local town or village. For this region of Granard/Abbeylara, there are Friday services into Granard via Robinstown – Abbeylara – Creevy / Cloughernal and in the afternoon via Derragh – Killasonna – Lisryan to Granard. The stop and departure point is from the Granard Area Action Group Office on Main Street. All enquiries to transport provider John Maguire at 087-6213526.

Siopa Lus na Greine

We welcome your cast offs ,bric-a-brac etc. you can drop them into the shop on Main Street any Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 10am and 5.00pm or to the Centre Monday to Friday. We have a lovely range of children’s clothes now in stock all sizes, also just arrived ladies trouser suits, suitable for the office at knock down prices. Lots of men’s clothing all sizes. Pop in and have a browse at your ease. All proceeds from the shop goes directly to The Family Resource Centre to fund projects in the Community.

Sound Meditation

Come and experience the relaxing and healing qualities of being bathed in sound. Wash away your stress and relaxing sound meditation bath. Moatsider’s Active Retirement Group

Next meeting takes place on 26 February at 2.30pm in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. We will have a busy schedule in the coming months, including, social events, health and well-being activities, outings and much more. The group had a very successful 2014 and are looking forward to 2015. Our aim is to promote creative writing in an enjoyable and relaxed environment and new members are always welcome.

Local Historical Society

The group held another successful meeting on Thursday last at Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. There has been a fantastic response and interest in the Historical Society and we are planning a range of events for 2015. If you are in anyway interested in your local history and heritage, we would be delighted if you would come along and join us.

Carers Association

Congratulations to Mrs Marcella Kiernan, Ferriskill, Granard who was one of 20 people nationally who received a Long Service Award from President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabrina at a presentation day for the Carers Association in Aras an Uachtarain last week for caring for her daughter Rosaleen for the past 30 years.

Killeen Dramatic Society

Killeen Dramatic Society presents “The Real McCoy” a three act comedy by Tommy Marren in The Community Centre Granard on Thursday and Friday 26th and 27th of February and again on Monday 2nd March. Curtain up at 8.30 pm.
