Harvest Thanksgiving Services
Harvest thanksgiving services in the church of Ireland as follows - St George’s Church, Kenagh, Sunday October 12 at 3pm. Everyone welcome special preacher on each occasion. Followed by tea.
The numbers drawn in Kenagh GAA Lotto for September 21st were 12, 15, 24, 28. There were four match three winners, Paul Kelly, Newtowncashel; John McLoughlin, Foigha; Gary and Jenny Percival, Clough Dillons and Peter Murphy, Abbeylara, all get twenty euro each.
A belated big thanks to Sharon Kelly, Karina Finnegan, Caroline Flanagan, Caitriona Hall, Olivia Treacy, Olivia Murphy, Catriona Manser, Johanna Smith and Meriel McCord who all did the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon back in June. The girls raised a grand total in excess of 1,600 euro for the club.
Our weekly get together resume this Tuesday night from 8 to 10pm in the community centre. If you would like to join us for a game of bowls, pool, rings or just a chat and a cup of tea you will be very welcome.
Training sessions are every Monday evening from 6.30 to 7.15pm at St Dominic’s GAA ground for all juveniles age 9 to 14 and little athletes age 6 to 9. Senior training is from 7.30 to 8.30pm. We also meet on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings to keep up with training progress. The club is affiliated to Longford Athletics Club who will provide training and support. Membership is not parish based, children and adults are welcome to join our club from surrounding areas. If you wish to join come along to St Dominics GAA Ground on a Monday evening. Winners last Thursday night were Peter and Dan, twelve games, they win eighty euro, Barry and Josie, eleven game, they win fifty euro. Table prizes: Larry and Pat, Mary and Vincent, all win twenty euro. Raffle: Tommy O’Malley, Peter Murtagh, Val Mulvihill, Peader McGarry, Bernie Walshe, Tom Nohilly, all win ten euro each.
Congratulations and best wishes to Louise Duignan, Abbeyderg and Stephen McCarthy who were married in Saint Dominic’s Church, Kenagh on Friday, September 26th. Celebrant of the wedding ceremony was Father Tom Barden, Kenagh, chief bridesmaid was Christina Duignan and bridesmaids were Dolores Hutchinson and Eileen Tighe. Best man was Damien Rushe and Groomsmen were Michael Duignan and Vinny Mulligan. Flowergirls were Leah McCarthy and Shianna Duignan. Pageboys were Brody Murphy and Alex McCarthy. Readers were Jason McCarthy, Niall McCarthy Leah McCarthy, Brody Murphy, Nadine McCarthy, Denise McCarthy, Usher Dylan Ruske. Church music was rendered by Sharon Thurley. The reception was held in the Rustic Inn which was attended by a large group of relatives and friends of bride and groom. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded bliss.
On Thursday last, September 25th, the Longford branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association released a new publication titled “Best Practices Access Guidleines in their headquarters in Kenagh. This 150 page volume gives a complete guideline of requirements of disabled people who depend of wheelchairs to get around. This publication should be of great interest to town planners builders householders, motorists, caterers, business people, organisers of functions and sports bodies. The book was launched by County Mayor, Mark Casey. Members of the Irish Wheelchair Association and Kenagh Co op also spoke, also Mrs Seamus Butler MCC. The attendance were then treated to refreshments by the carers and staff of IWA who are a very efficient group at all times. The book is available from Martin Tarmey at WHI Kenagh. Well done to all concerned.
