Road traffic collision
Units from Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service were alerted to attend a two vehicle road traffic collision at approximately 10.40am on Thursday, October 25th. The collision took place between a passenger car and an ESB service vehicle at Templanstown, Castlepollard. Paramedics from the National Ambulance Service were in attendance, as were members of Castlepollard Gardai. One casualty was removed by ambulance to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar. Traffic flow was interrupted for a period of time.
The late James Kiernan
The local and North Westmeath community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place suddenly on Sunday, September 21st, at his residence of Mr. James P. Kiernan, Derrynagara, Collinstown. The remains reposed at his residence from Wednesday, September 24th, with removal on Thursday, September 25th, at 2.30pm to St. Mary’s Church, Collinstown. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 3.00pm with internment afterwards to the local cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. James was a member of an old respected family. He had been predeceased by the death of his daughter Denise. He was of a quiet and friendly disposition, and was a friendly and obliging neighbour. He will be sadly missed not alone by his immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife Elsie, son James, daughter Fiona, grandchildren Louis and Eleanor, daughter-in-law Catherine, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Harvest Thanksgiving & Ball
Next Friday, October 3rd, sees the annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service taking place in St. Michael’s Church of Ireland, The Square, Castlepollard. The Service takes place at 8.30pm, and all are welcome. The annual Harvest Thanksgiving Dance will take place on the same night in Hotel Castlepollard, with music by The Schoolhouse Five. Supper will be provided at 10pm and there will be a raffle on the night. Admission is 10 euro including supper, and proceeds are in aid of the St. Michael’s Church of Ireland Restoration Fund. All are welcome.
For anyone interested in a new activity for the dark winter months, Castlepollard Bowls Club are continuing meetings every Monday and Wednesday evenings in Castlepollard Community College between 8pm and 10pm. No previous experience is necessary, and the first night is free.
Sean Nos Dancing
Sean Nos Dancing Classes take place every Thursday in Streete Sports Complex at 6pm for children and 7pm for adults. The classes ae being conducted by Edwina Guckian who is renowned for her Sean Nos Dancing. For further information contact Edwina on 086-1649989.

Walk to Knockeyon
Following the very successful walk to Knockeyon last year as part of the 175th anniversary celebrations for the Church of St. John the Baptist, Whitehall, Castlepollard, the parish committee have once again decided to hold the event this year. The walk will take place this coming Sunday, October 5th, starting at 1.45pm, and parking will be in Robinsons’s field by kind permission of David Robinson. All are welcome, and hopefully the weather will cooperate by being dry and mild.
