Congratulations to our under 14 girls and their management who were victorious over Kingscourt in the Division 4 championship final last weekend. A great performance by all the team. Ellyanna Madden, Tara O’Reilly, Emma Halton, Emily O’Reilly, Roisin O’Reilly, Ciara Cadden (joint captain) Ella O’Reilly, Caoimhe Madden, Lauren Brady (joint capt), Grace Cadden, Pamela O’Reilly, Caitlin O’Reilly. Well done to all. Hard luck to our minor girls who were narrowly defeated by Lacken in the Divisioin 3 minor championship final. Well done to all. Girls under 16 championship starts this Saturday, 4th October with Gowna playing Belturbet at 12 noon in Belturbet. Our senior ladies play the league semi final on Sunday, 5th October. Best of luck to all involved.


Sympathy is extended to the Briody family, Arva Road and Cortober on the death of their aunt, Mrs Brigid McGuire, (nee Briody), Clonback, Aughnacliffe, which occurred on Friday, 26th September at Cavan General Hospital. Also sympathy to Mrs McGuires’ sons, daughters and extended family. Following funeral mass in St Colmcille’s church, Aughnacliffe on Sunday, burial took place in adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

We wish St Columba’s (Mullinalaghta) senior football team all the best on Sunday in the county final and hope that they bring back the Sean Connolly Cup to Mullinalaghta after 62 years.


Sympathy is extended to Patrick Smith, Loch View, Loch Gowna on the death of his father, Patrick Smith, Church View, Granard which occurred on Wednesday, 24th September at Mullingar General Hospital, Mullingar. His remains were removed to St Mary’s Church, Granard on Thursday evening and following funeral mass on Friday burial took place in Granardkille cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to Thomas Tierney, Corfree Road, Loch Gowna on achieving first place in the junior loy digging competition held at the National ploughing championship in Rathenisk, Co Laois on Wednesday, 24th September. Also to PJ McStay, Arnaghan, Loch Gowna on achieving third place in the senior section. Well done.
