As this is the First Friday of the month Mgr. Earley will do his normal calls to the sick and housebound on this Wednesday, 1st October and not Thursday as usual. Please pass on the change of date to those who miss this.

We extend sincere sympathy to Pat Grimes, Rathowen on the death of his wife, Ann (nee Ledwith) who passed away on Friday last, 27th. Ann is survived by her husband Pat and her children Elaine, Darren and Louise, her grandchildren, Brandon, Ethen and Cameron, her brothers, sisters and a large circle of friends and neighbours. Ann’s removal took place from her home on Monday to St. Mary’s Church and she was laid to rest following mass on Tuesday in Russagh cemetery. May she rest in peace.

To Margaret Kelly, Russagh who came in runner up in the Brown Bread Baking competition at the National Ploughing last week. This was a 32 County competition which makes it a wonderful achievement. Margaret is well known in Rathowen and Streete parishes and everyone is really delighted.
Held their A.G.M last week. The following officers were elected: - Chairman-Martin Gaynor, Secretary- Pat Kelly, Assistant Sec. - Rachel Gaffney, Treasurer - Sean Flood, P.R.O. - Bill Bennett, Safety officers - Michael Turner and Michael Gillen, Delegates to County Board - Thomas Sullivan and Martin Gaynor. Three new selectors were appointed for the coming season. They are: Mick McLoughlin, Liam Connaughton and Pat Kelly. All existing club members are urged to return to training, so that the selectors will have a chance to pick teams for the new season. New members are very welcome to join the club.
The Ramblers walked a section of the Westmeath Way on Sunday September 21st. Their afternoon began beside Lough Ennell at Lilliput and they followed the signs for the way along a combination of roads, tracks and through fields to Dysart. They then looped back by road to Lilliput with its view across the calm, pale blue water of Lough Ennell. Along the way the hedgerows were full of autumn fare including blackberries, elderberries and rose hips. Thank you to Eileen Moreton for leading the walk. Newcastle Forest will be the venue for the Ramblers walk on Sunday October 5th. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the bridge in the forest at 2pm. The 2014 Walks Calendar on the Ramblers website at www.boherquillramblers.ie is currently being updated with autumn walks. Suggestions for future walks would be welcome. Anyone wishing to join the October weekend away in Drumshanbo is asked to confirm with Brian Nerney at 086 2596656 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible, deposits are being accepted. The group will leave on the evening of Friday, October 17th and return on Sunday, October 19th, travelling in cars.
