First Holy Communion
Last Sunday, the 11th of May was First Holy Communnion Day. Six children received the Blessed Eucharist for the first time. The Mass at 12.00 noon replaced the scheduled Sunday Mass. Thanks to all concerned for organising everything and special thanks to the Parent’s Association for supplying the refreshments served in The Hill afterwards.
Tidy Towns Walk
The Tidy Towns Nature Walk held on Bank Holiday Monday was very successful, with the bad weather clearing just in time. The committee thank all those who helped and supported it. Thanks to Fr Gerry Brady for all his help and assistance also.
Recitation of the Rosary continues on Fridays at 7.30p.m. until the end of the month. All are invited to make a special effort to attend the Rosary during the month of May.
The next Teen Mass takes place on Saturday, the 31st of May, Feast of the Asscension. The focus will be on examinations. A preparatory meeting will be held on Thursday, the 15th of May at 8pm.
Fianna Fáil hold their annual Church gate collection this weekend 17th/18th May.
The Newtowncashel Branch Fine Gael held their A.G.M. Recently. There was a big of turnout of members present. Councillor Seán Farrell gave a run down of works carried out by the county Council in the recent past and beyond. And also plans for future remedial work in the pipeline. Sean is running for a seat on Longford County Council and earnestly asks for your support. The election of officers then took place and the committee was returned en block for the coming year. The branch would like to thank everyone who subscribed so generously to the Fine Gael church collection. A vote of sympathy was passed with all those who had bereavements in the past year.
Longford Harvest Festival are holding a Tractor Run on Sunday, the 25th of May. Leaving Gav’s Bar, Kenagh at 12.00 noon to Newtowncashel at 1pm approx. and returning to Gav’s Bar, Kenagh. Entry fee is €20 per tractor.

Saint’s Island Cemetery, 24th of August. Cashel Cemetery, 31st of August. These Masses will replace the 10.30a.m. Mass in the Church.
The Relics of St. Thérése of Lisieux visit the Carmelite Church, Moate on Friday, 16th May. Mass will be celebrated at 7.15pm.
An Post RAS
Stage 1 passes through County Longford this Sunday, the 18th of May, reaching Edgeworthstown at 2.30pm approx. A ‘King of the Mountains’ climb features at Richmount Hill, Carrickboy, (400 feet). At Ballymahon Post Office, there is a Prime & Hotspot Sprint’. The stage then continues to Lanesboro en route to Roscommon.

Well done to Joseph Kenny on winning Silver in the U-14 Breaststroke competition at the County Community Games Final recently. Also, well done to David Sweeney, Chloe Hopkins and Abaigh Curley.
