Legan Walking group is heading on a walking day trip to Westport this Saturday 8th March. The bus leaves Legan village at 9pm and the cost is €15. Everyone welcome and to book ring Liam on 0868383186.


Results of GAA Lotto draw held in The Hill, Carrickboy for a jackpot of €8,800. Numbers drawn were 8, 10, 15 and 21. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of €35 each were John Kenny, Violet Barry and Thomas and Phil. This week’s draw took place in Mitchell’s and results will be published next week.


Rehearsals are ongoing and final touches being put in place for the staging of the John B Keane production of “Big Maggie”. All extras and helpers are requested to attend rehearsal on Wednesday night in the Aurora Hall. Dates for the staging are Saturday 22nd Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th March.

First Friday

This Friday, 7th March is the First Friday and Holy Communion calls to the sick and housebound is on Thursday and Friday mornings at the usual times.

Inny Anglers

Results of last week’s Inny Anglers Lotto draw held in Slowey’s for a jackpot of €4,250. Numbers drawn were 17, 19, 20 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners of €40 each were Ollie Boylan and Patricia Teague. This week’s draw takes place in The Hill, Carrickboy for a jackpot of €4,300.


Well done to Legan ICA Quiz team who won the Federation Table Quiz in The Chestnut Tree, Killashee on Tuesday night last. Team members Margaret McDonald, Vera Flood and Mary Carthy will now represent County Longford in the All Ireland finals in An Grianán in April. County Longford ICA is organising a trip to the World Flower Show in the RDS Dublin on Thursday 19th June. A subsidised bus will run for members and non members, also anyone wishing to avail of reduced entry tickets can do so by ringing 0857101053 immediately. This event only takes place once in a lifetime in each country.

Community Games

County Longford Community Games committee will hold a fundraising Table Quiz in the Golf Club, Longford on this Friday night, 7th March at 9pm. Tables of four will cost €40 and all those with children involved in Community Games are asked to support.

Best of luck

Congratulations to the Senior Scór representatives who participated in and won the County finals in Novelty Act, Sean Nós Dancing and Recitation last Saturday night in Ballinamuck. The Novelty Act players were Johnny Murray, Paddy Donnelly, Patsy Brady, Liam Butler and Gerry Madden. Recitation: Gerry Madden and Sean Nós Dancing, Patsy Brady. They now go forward to the Leinster semi-finals in Birr this Saturday 8th March. We wish them the best of luck.

Senior Scór Quiz

The County finals of Senior Scór Question time takes place this Friday night in Áras ui Bhriain Pearse Park. Representing Legan Sarsfield Club will be Joe Hunt, Padraig Kelly, Patrick Carthy and Martin Morris. We wish them the best of luck.

Junior Scór finalists

Well done to our Junior Scór team who travelled to Castlebar on Saturday last to compete in the All Ireland Question time. Against stiff opposition our team came close to the top tally and well within the top ten. Team members were Jack Nulty, Patrick Cahill, Paddy Farrell and Darragh Gunshinan.


The organisers of the recent Church gate collection in aid of The Samaritans, Athlone Midlands branch wish to acknowledge a total of €234 collected at Masses in Legan, Ballycloghan and Carrickedmond. This money has been forwarded to the Charity and will contribute towards the ongoing work done by volunteers for Counties Longford, Westmeath, Roscommon and Offaly. It covers the cost of low call telephone calls to distressed callers. All work is carried out by volunteers and Samaritans has only one paid official in its Dublin office.
