Victory for U-16s
Garadice Gaels booked their passage to the 11-a-side U-16 final with a 3-17 to 2-6 win over Gortletteragh in the semi-final played in Clooneon last Saturday. Garadice team: Jason Prior, Niall Stringer, Ronan Maxwell, Donal McCabe, Pierce Dolan (0-2), Fergal McTague (0-2), Ronan McTague, Michael Prior (2-3), Peter Prior (1-3), Stephen Meissner (0-1), Dylan Mimna (0-5). Subs: Darragh Maxwell (0-1) and Michael McTague.

Recalling October 1992
Fr John Sexton CC addressed a large attendance at the ‘Bishops Developing the West Together’ meeting in Drumreilly Community Centre. Dual performer Thomas Connolly became the first Ardunsaghan-born player to win a Leitrim U- 16 Championship medal when Ballinamore beat St Finbar’s in the final. Drumreilly surrendered the league points to Aughnasheelin and Aughawillan. The U-16s collected full Winter League against Ballinamore and Aughavas. The U-21s opened the 9-a-side League campaign with victory over Fenagh. Pádraig Gaffney and MauraMitchell had announced their engagement.
The following were busy in rehearsals of farcical sketches in preparation for an upcoming Variety Concert: Veronica McKeon, Kitty Holahan, Bridie Mulligan, Yeonette Donohoe, Marie Connolly, Seán Maxwell, Pádraig Gaffney, Pat Connolly, Pádraig Holahan, Charlie McCartin and Pat Conefrey. Pat Donohoe and Gerard Holahan, who were pitted against two towering giants Teddy McCarthy and Colin Corkery emerged with distinction in Leitrim’s drawn League game against Cork.
Active Age Snippets
Seventeen members attended our last meeting on Wednesday, October 9. The main items on the agenda were the Arts day in Carrick on Shannon, the Cloone-Aughavas Social, the Intervention Rice Scheme and the Positive Ageing Week. Five members took part in the Creative Writing, Art, Collage, Drama etc. activities on Arts Day in the Bush Hotel.
Arrangements were made to travel to the Cloone-Aughavas Social, which was enjoyed by all. Arrangements were made for the taking down of the exhibits in the Library in Ballinamore. Mr Bob Cooper gave demonstrations on Bowls playing in the main Hall. All members are asked to attend this Wednesday’s meeting, where upcoming events and proposed activities will be discussed.
Heartiest congratulations to Pete Faughnan and Rosie Farrell who were married in St Colmcille’s Church, Aughnacliffe, Co Longford on Saturday last.
