Ardagh athletes winning medals: A number of Ardagh athletes who are members of Longford Athletic Club have had a very successful couple of weeks in competition. Seven teams from Ardagh NS competed in the Longford Primary Schools Relays and five teams returned with gold medals while another got bronze medals. Two other pupils also won golds in the subs races. Last Friday night six athletes travelled to compete in the Midland Championships in Tullamore and returned with three golds, five silvers and a bronze medal. This weekend Cian Mc Phillips, Brendan Finnan and Cathal Farrell compete on the County Longford Relay team in the Community Games National Finals in Athlone IT and all the athletes wish them well as they go after more medals.
National Finals: 11 children from our parish are making the trip to Athlone IT this weekend to compete in 4 events at the National Community Games Finals. The standard of competition in every event will be very high so we wish them all good luck as they represent not only Ardagh, Moydow & Glen but also County Longford. Maryann Lynch, Solo Singing. Healthy Events 2013: A fun night was had by all celebrating the end of our Healthy Events 2013 Campaign and winding up the Friday evening Youth Club for the summer. It was easy to see how much all the children have learned about the 5 Healthy Events topics this year with all the correct answers they gave at the table quiz. Thanks to Brendan Farrell, Ardagh Eco Gardens, for giving us a guided nature walk in the Heritage Park. Brigette & Leslie are preparing the entry for the competition and will present a summary to both primary schools and Parents Associations so that the health awareness started by the Healthy Events 2013 project on Sun Safety, Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, Substance (alcohol\tobacco\drugs) Misuse and Mental Health can be extended further into the community.
Ardagh Heritage & Creativity Centre: Plans are in motion for 2 summer camps aimed at 12+/teens in July and August. Lughnasa Summer Camp will offer art, costume making, set design, creative writing & drams. The Teen Art Camp will feature drawing, painting, batik, lino-printing & pottery. Don’t wait until summer to enjoy Toddler Creativity every Thursday at 11am and Children’s Art every Saturday morning at 11am. You can also book your Birthday Party and do arts and crafts. WEDDING: The marriage took place on Friday last in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Cross Co Clare of David Farrell Barney Ardagh & Kathleen Foley Cross Co Clare. The ceremony was performed by Fr Michael Casey & Fr Pat Lennon. David’s groomsmen were Eddie Farrell & John Kelly . Kathleen’s bridesmaids were Fiona Carmody & Ann Foley. Flower girl Cate Foley. Page boys Cian Costello , Lorcan Carmnody. The reception was held in the Armada Hotel Spanish Point. Congratulations are extended to David & Kathleen. Wishing them a long & happy life together.

ARDAGH COMMUNITY CENTRE: The trustees of the community centre have secured funding towards resurfacing of centre car park and work should commence shortly. The work entails lowering of section of car park, drainage and kerbing in addition to tarmac resurfacing. While there will be some inconvenience during works on car park the finished project will enhance the overall facilities in the village. When all works are completed it is proposed to restrict access to car park to times when centre is being used. Plans and details of proposed work will be on display at the community centre on Saturday 25th May 2013 between 2pm and 3pm. Please call in as your input is important.
BEREAVEMENTS: Sympathy is extended to Michael Mulleady & family on the death of his brother Eamon to Frank Donlon & family and Mary Maloney and family on the death of their mother May and to the relatives of the late Eileen Keegan who died recently . May they rest in peace.
