gaa dinner dance: Last Saturday night the Bornacoola gaa dinner dance took place in Cox’s of Dromod. A great night was had by the large attendance who were entertained well into the early hours by Tom Moran. Michelle Howard took on the role of MC or the night and what a excellent job she done on it, guests of honour were Joseph Flynn Leitrim County Board Chairman, Kieran Moran Ladies County board also a very special surprise guest on the night was RTE sports personality Marty Morrison who presented the Bornacoola ladies winning team with their medals. Awards won on the night were; Junior player of the year John Bohan, Intermediate player of the year Damian Moran, Senior player of the year Gary McCluskey, Ladies player of the year Charlotte Faughnan, Club person of the year Seamus Mallon, there was also a special presentation to the All Ireland winning Scor Tra Na gCeist team of Seorise Reynolds, Liam Rabbitt and Aiden Dockrey, as usual Cox’s provided a beautiful meal to them we say a very special thanks.
Cairde Rince Ceili na hEreann: We send our congratulations to Dromod’s Kathleen Moffatt on being re elected as National Assistant secretary of Cairde Rince Ceili na hEreann. Kathleen has always been to the fore front in all matters in the traditional Irish song and dancing, she was also an adjudicator in the All Ireland Fleadh last year in Cavan and still hold weekly classes in Ceili dancing.
Dromod Festival Launch Night: The Festival Committee would like to say a big thank you to all who came to Cox’s on Friday night. An enjoyable night was had by all and a special thank you to Feargal McGill for the great music. A brilliant start was made to the festival fundraising through a well supported prize raffle. Prize winners were: Josie McGushin, Liam Faughnan, Jimmy Cox, Jason Faughnan, Una McNulty and Martin Harkin. The Festival Committee is still very interested to hear from any individuals, groups or organisations who could further add to the success of the day. Retired Teacher’s Association: Midland Retired Secondary Teacher’s Association will meet on Tues March 19th in Longford Library at 11am. Laura Thompson of Healthy Options will speak on all things health related and answer questions. Laura promotes holistic/natural therapies/products and is very qualified in same. Solo Photographic Exhibition: Ballinamore library would like to invite the public in to view a “Solo Photographic Exhibition” by Dromod photographer Ailbhe McGill. The exhibition will run until 12th April during library opening hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10.00-1.30 and 2.30 to 5.30. Tuesday to Thursday 10.00-1.30 and 2.30-8.00 Saturday 10.00-1.30 and 2.30-5.00. Admission Free.
Sympathy: We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Brendan O’Haire, Knocklongford, Mohill who died suddenly on Thursday last at Sligo General Hospital. Brendan was laid to rest in Mohill cemetery on Sunday last. May he Rest in Peace.
New Baby: We send our congratulations to Barry Mitchell and Angela Tighe, Rooskey on the birth of their baby a boy to be named Tadgh. We wish you health and happiness for the future.
Youth Club: Another busy week at the Hive last week. The junior club ran as normal and great fun was had by all while the teen club went to Drumshambo to take part in an inter soccer club tournament. We had three teams take part one of which got through to the final and were narrowly defeated in the closing minutes of the game. Well done to everyone and thanks to our other club members who were great supporters on the night. The team who got through to the final were Liam Jones, Karl Mallon, Gearoid Mulligan, Brian Duffy and Ronan Mulligan. Well done lads. This weeks clubs are Thursday evening drop in for the teen club from half six until nine, Friday is senior club from seven until half eight and teen club from a quarter ti nine until a quarter past ten.
Trident Swim Club: Trident Swim Club is Carrick on Shannon’s newest and most successful swim club with members ranging from beginners to national squad. We train at Aura in Carrick three times a week and welcome new members up to 18 years of age. Our membership prices are very reasonable and we offer a free trial session to all with no obligation. Fundraising Cycle: A note to hand from my neighbour Seamus Duignan to let you know that County Longford Scuba divers Search and rescue unit are holding a “Fundraising Cycling Sportive” on Sunday April 28th next. The cycle will start at their clubhouse on the Ballinalee Road Longford at 10.30am and the cycle will be for distances of 80km, 50km, or 20km which ever the cyclist prefers. Annaduff gaa: In the Under 14 league Annaduff had a win by the narrowest of margins over Kiltubrid on a final scoreline of; Kiltubrid -4-8 Annaduff-3-11. Registration for all underage players takes place next Sunday 17th from 11.30 to 1.00pm in the Clubhouse.
