Easter Bonnet Ladies Night: On this Friday 22 March in the Boomerang Lounge Bar Granard a novel fundraising night will take place. “Dust down those hats and feathers ladies and don you Sunday best” Join us for the evening and enjoy a glass of wine some nibbles and lots of great prizes. We will be joined by Amy Leslie from Head Strong Millinery Designs who will be showing some of her beautiful handcrafted Hats; Fascinators and Head Pieces. This is a night not to be missed. All proceeds will go towards Granard’s Easter Festival. Admission is €10.00.

Tidy Towns: A meeting of Granard Tidy Towns committee will take place on Tuesday 26 March next at 8.30pm in Fay’s Bar. Please come along and support.

Parish Mission: The mission commenced on Sunday 17 March at 8.00pm and continues until Saturday 23 ending with the Vigil Mass at 8.30-pm. Morning Masses Monday to Friday 7.00am and 9.30pm. Evening Mission at 8.00pm daily. Sacrament of Reconciliation this Wednesday 20 March at 8.00pm. Sacrament / Anointing of the Sick will take place on Saturday 23 March at 11.30am. This is a time of great renewal and Blessings for the Parish and everyone is encouraged to partake.

Country Markets: Congratulations to the winners of the free draw for St. Patrick’s Day held on Friday morning last – Jessica Walsh; Elizabeth Brady and Josephine Cullivan. Please note our Easter Market will be held on Holy Saturday 30 March from 10.00am to 12 noon. Easter Cards; cakes and goodies now available at the market.

Rath Mhuire Resource Centre Moatsider’s Active Age: Thanks to Sr. Maeve for arranging our trip to Baggot Street to the Sisters of Mercy Centre, it was a very nice day particularly during this Lenten period. Our next meeting date is Thursday 21March and we will be travelling to Enniskillen / Lisnaskea to Timothy Dowling Garden Centre for an Easter Flower Demonstration and Raffle as well as a visit to the Garden Centre, which is very appropriate as Spring arrives. Men’s Social Club: Our next date is Tuesday 19 March meeting at 12.30 in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. Our collection of stories is coming near a conclusion and plans for the future include, Health Matters, Upholstery Art and as always, a very important part of our gatherings is good food and good company. SVP: Well done to the voluntary management committee of the recently founded St. Vincent de Paul group here in Granard who opened their shop “New-2-U”on Market Street Granard on Saturday last. Further details next week.

The Gathering: Cemetery Sunday 4 August in Granardkille Cemetery. The parish is taking this opportunity to avail of the day as a Gathering for all who are visiting our Community remembering the ones who have gone before us. The Proverb “When we drink the water we should remember the ones who dug the well”. This is our opportunity to Remember to St. Christopher’s Services Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s is holding an Easter Bunny Walk on Sunday 24 March 2013 from Granard to Abbeylara. The walk will commence at the Health Centre Granard at 3.00pm. Come along and join in the fun - Eggs Galore.

G.A.A. Book: A most memorable evening was held in St. Mary’s Club House on Friday evening last when the club launched their book “The Granard GAA Story – 125 years”. This is a very fine production and is a must for all GAA enthusiasts not alone in Granard but throughout the county. Further details next week.

Easter Festival: Plans are now at an advanced stage for the Easter Festival on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March. The festival kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 3pm with a gruelling 5K Run which starts at Kiernan Milling! Entry is €10 per adult and €5 for U16 participants. Prizes are as follows 1st €200, 2nd €100 and 3rd €50. There will be a special prize of €50 for the first U16 competitor across the finish line. If you wish to participate call Patrick on 043 6687935. Later in the evening, the Novelty Tug-O-War will take place on Main Street. All businesses in the area are invited to enter a team of 7 people. The cost is €20 per team. On Sunday from 1pm onwards there will be lots of fabulous entertainment for children and adults including fire eating, stilt walking and unicyclist from Corvenieos Entertainment. The crowd are in for a very special treat with the appearance of the “Trialstar Team” - the very best of mototcycle arena trials specialists performing amazing feats of bravery. The parade is expected to pass through Main St. at 2pm. Many floats have entered, but there is still time to join up if you wish to do so call Patrick on 043 6687935. There will be an Artisan Food & Craft Fare boasting an array of home baking including cheese, meats, boxty, jams, apple pies, crepes and confectionary so all palettes will be catered for. After the parade Shindig – formerly known as the Merchant Archers, will take to the stage followed by popular local group Paper Planes! As it is Easter Sunday there’ll be lots of Easter Eggs to give away!! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun! With such a variety of live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Easter Festival in Granard!

Autism Support Group: The second annual fundraising night in aid of M.W.B. Autism Support Group will take place in the Park House Hotel Edgeworthstown on Friday 5 April. Dancing to Mick Flavin with special guests. Subscription €10.00. Doors open at 9.00pm. Dancing from 10pm to 1.00pm. Spot prizes galore.

G.A.A. Race Day: The annual Race Day organised by Longford G.A.A. at Punchestown Races was launched last week in Aras Ui Bhrian Longford. The date is set for Wednesday 24 April – Gold Cup Day. Sponsors again this year are RSM Farrell Grant Sparks. This is the 11th year of the event which has become one of the largest corporate events at Punchestown.

Scor: Best wishes to St. Mary’s Set Dancing team who take part in the Leinster Final of Score in Ballymore Co. Westmeath on Easter Sunday.

Recent Birth: Congratulations to Fiona and Micheal Gettings Lisryan on the birth of their baby daughter Emily Rose recently.

Recent Marriages: Congratulations to Louise Campbell, Muckerstaff and Kieran Walsh, Rathcronan, Granard who were married in St. Mary’s Church, Granard on Thursday, 14 March. A reception for family and friends followed in the Hudson Bay Hotel, Athlone. We wish Louise and Kieran every blessing for the future. Congratulations to Niamh Sheridan, Cloonaghmore, Abbeylara and William McDermott, Longford who were married in St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara on Saturday 16 March. A reception for family and friends followed in The Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim. We wish the happy young couple every blessing for the future.

Bingo: Takes place each Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Rosary Vigil: Outside Dail Eireann. Saturday 23 March at 3pm. The special intention is to ask God through the Holy Rosary to protect Ireland from the sin and the crime of Abortion.
