LEITRIM LIVECRAFT ¦ CREATIVE TRAINING PROGRAMME: Leitrim LIVECRAFT is a Leitrim Development Company project developed under the Rural Development LEADER Programme. It a unique training programme implemented by the Leitrim Design House in association with the Leitrim Sculpture Centre. It is a creative training programme supporting economic activity in County Leitrim. LIVECRAFT aims to re-energise and expand the possibilities of the craft sector in County Leitrim as a contribution to economic regeneration and sustainable growth by drawing on the county and all it has to offer. Why should I become involved? If you would like to learn a new skill; re-energise your business; develop your professional and business skills; or explore your creativity then this could be the programme for you. Register early as places are limited. Each practical skills training has an average of 6-8 places available. Where is it happening? The practical training will take place in the Sculpture Centre, Manorhamilton while the business development training will take place in the Leitrim Design House, Carrick-on-Shannon. When will it start? The programme will launch on April 12th with a Creative Thinking Day which is open to all participants. The overall programme will run from April 2013 to December 2013. MEETING: A meeting is scheduled to take place at 8 00pm on tomorrow Thursday 21st March 2013 in Aras Padraig in Drumshanbo with a view to re establishing the concept of Community Alert and Neighborhood Watch in Drumshanbo and the surrounding areas, Supt Furlong from Manorhamilton Garda Station will attend the meeting and the Crime Prevention Officer for the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Division will give a presentation on Crime Prevention.Ms Vanessa Clarke from  Muintir na Tire will also attend. It is important that people attend the meeting particularly those who have an interest in being co coordinators in their local areas.

LEITRIM GAA SUPORTERS CLUB DRAW: There are still a number of Leitrim Supporters tickets available at €40 each. Funds raised goes to support the Leitrim county teams from Under 16 to Senior. Tickets may be purchased from John Joe Cullen, Paschal Mooney or Sean Wynne.

YOUTH FACTOR: Leitrim’s Youth Factor will take place on May 24th in Mohill Canoe Donohue Hall. There are four Categories, Music, Song, Dance and Performance/Drama. Each Club/Café can submit entries in total, 2 in Post Primary and 2 in Primary School. Full Details available from your local Youth Leaders. Youth Activity Day on the 3rd of April as part of the Junior clubs Healthy lifestyle project with Leitrim’s Sports Partnership will take place in the Mayflower from 2pm to 4pm. On April 5th The Base Post Primary Group will have their Easter Trip and Activity Day. Junior Leaders Activity Day is on the 4th of April.

First aid: One Day First Aid Training will be coming up in April. Date to be confirmed. Let us know if any of any Youth Leaders are interested in attending.

COMMUNITY GAMES: We had great numbers from the Drumshanbo, Drumcong and Dowra areas at Leitrim county final in handwriting, art and model making in Carrick on Shannon in the last week. Winners from our area were: Handwriting: Enda Lowe 3rd. Art Under 10 (girl)- Eadaoin Lee 1st; Under 10 (boy): Iarlaith O Brien 1st ; Danny McWeeney 2nd; Under 12 (girl): Johanna Deitz 3rd; Under 12 (boy): Dylan Easterbrook 2nd; Model Making: Under 12 (boy): Barry Mc Weeney 2nd; Under 14 (boy): David Gallagher 1st. Our three first winners Eadaoin Lee, Iarlaith O’Brien and David Gallagher go through to the national finals in Athlone at the end of May. Congratulations to all our winners and best of luck to out three finalists.

GOSPEL CHOIR: The Gospel Choir from Virginia Co. Cavan will perform a wonderful concert in St. Mary’s Church Killenummery on Palm Sunday March 24th at 7pm. This performance will mark the beginning of Holy Week, and will be a lovely start to the Ceremonies during the Holiest week of the year. The Gospel Choir from Virginia Co. Cavan performed on the popular show “Ireland got Talent” and did very well during the series. There will be a donation of one’s choice at the entrance to the performance, and all the proceeds will go directly to the Hospice in Sligo. The Hospice need to raise much money every year, and this will be our contribution to this very worthy cause, as well as enjoying a great night’s entertainment.
