St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday night 11th March. The Jackpot was €2950 – Numbers drawn were 13 / 28 / 29 / 30. No winner. €50 winners – Brían Cully, Farrangarve. Bernard Brady, Lacken. Raymond Keogh, Gowna.The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 18th March was €3,000. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website www.arvagfc.com League: Arva have Corlough as visitors to Michael Cully Park on this Saturday 23rd March for a game in the Brady’s Volkswagen Division 3 League. The game is timed for 4 o’clock and we urge as many as possible to come out and support the players. St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club postponed their “Come Dine with Me” function on Saturday night last due to a bereavement. A meeting will be held in the next week to organise a new date.
Training: Under 8/6 training may take place in St Patrick’s Hall again this Saturday the 16th March from 10:00 to 11:00 am . The club will keep parents informed and thank them for their co operation on this matter .

Cavan lose: Cavan Senior team were defeated by neighbours Fermanagh in Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday evening last by 2 points – 1-12 to 1-10 – and with that probably goes their chance for promotion to Division 2. They will travel to Aughrim on Sunday next to play Wicklow while they still have to play Roscommon in Breffni. Both games will be hard won and the threat of relegation looms again.
Table quiz: Arva Parish Church Table Quiz this Friday 22 March 8.30pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel to raise funds for Arva Church new roof. Tables of 4 and individuals welcome.
Lourdes: The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 27th May to 1st June led by Bishop Leo O’ Reilly. Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue on each Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is over €3,100-00 in Prize Money on offer each week (€1,000-00 on page 9) making it one of the best around. €1,000 winner – Ann Brady, Rosduff. Eyes down at 8.30 pm.
Rural Transport: County Longford Rural Transport a change to our timetable/schedule, for “Good-Friday” the 29th March 2013. Please note that all Rural Transport - Friday Services, throughout the County, will run on Thursday 28th March, with the same collection and departure times. All age-groups are welcome to travel. ! Free Money: Saturday Night’s Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. On this Saturday night there will be €400 on offer. Free entry to the draw. You must be there to win – the draw takes place anytime after 10.00pm.
Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to Mrs Kathleen Gumley, Castlepoles, Arva on the death of her brother Leo Mc Nerney which occurred recently. Following Requiem Mass in St Colmcille’s Church, Aughnacliffe burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.

Line Dancing: Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva every Thursday night with classes for Beginners at 8.30 pm and for the more Advanced at 9.30 pm. Come along and enjoy a good night’s dancing in a friendly environment. Get out – Get active.
Walking group: The Arva Trotters Walking Group will be out each Sunday morning at 11.15 am. Everyone welcome.
St Patricks Day Parade: The Howard Memorial Pipe Band once again led the Parade in Arva which went off very successfully. There was a good spread of floats with a lot of thought put into some of them. Unfortunately just as the last float passed the reviewing stand the rain pelted down and dispersed the crowd very quickly. Result of prize winners next week.
Ghana: Ealanor Smith, Garrymore, Ballinagh is having a quiz night in Cronin’s pub in Ballinagh on this Friday the 22ndof March at 9.30pm. Ealanor is hoping to raise funds for her volunteering trip to Ghana in June. She will be working alongside the community to provide vital health and dental care to those in need. There will be a raffle on the night with some prizes and there will also be a prize for first place. Everyone is welcome.
Gathering: In connection with the gathering Ireland the Arvagh 3 Provinces Festival will run from the 26th July - 5th August. For this event we are putting together a book and would be grateful if anyone had old pictures, story’s etc from in and around the area. All items will be returned. Farewell: We wish Fr Sheamie Cullen, Gartylough, Arva a safe trip back to his missionary work in Japan. Fr Sheamie has been spreading the Gospel in Japan since he was ordained 45 years ago. He bade farewell to the community at Masses over the weekend in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva and asked everyone to pray for him in his continuing work. On behalf of everyone in the community we wish God’s Blessing on Fr Sheamie and hope it will not be too long until we see him back in Arva again.
