Gun Club: The Club are holding their previously postponed Club Draw on this Friday 11 January in J.V. Donohue’s Lounge. Music and Spot prizes on the night. All are welcome.

Spirit of Mercy Award: Congratulation to James Mooney a 5th Year Student at Cnoc Mhuire who was the winner of the 2012 award recently. James involved himself and continues to be involved in Parish events and fundraising for various projects in his native parish of Mullinalaghta. Others who received certificates for their outstanding caring and contribution were Melissa Keys, Kristine Donohoe Fiona McGrath and Niall Lord. These annual awards are now in their second year acknowledging the generosity of young people and the importance of affirming this spirit in adults of the future.

Bingo: Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Why not try your luck and come along. Proceeds to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s GAA Clubs.

Late Late Show: Congratulations to Ann-Marie Durkin who was on the show on Saturday night last promoting her company Shasta Ltd. Her company has devised many sterilisation products for baby care and the latest product a bottle steriliser Steri-Ova will be launched on the Irish and U.K. markets later this year. We wish Ann-Marie continued success with her products.

Country Market: Granard Country Market at the Market House returns after the Christmas break on Friday 18 January from 8.30am to 11.00 am and in Lus Na Greine FRC on Saturday 19 January from 11-00 am to 1.00pm. We look forward to seeing all our customers in 2013 and thanks for your support during 2012.

Volunteer in Africa: Humanitarian Volunteers are looking for people to volunteer to travel to East Africa in February 2013. The volunteers will work on a humanitarian project for 2 weeks. No experience required and no age restrictions. No large fundraising. Volunteers will pay their own costs. Marriages: Congratulations to Ruari McElligott and Ellen Marie Donohoe who were married on 21 December in St. Columba’s Church, Mullinalaghta followed by a reception the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan. Ellen Marie is a popular member of the teaching staff at Aughnagarron N.S. Congratulations to James Cassidy, Ballinacross, Granard and Ailish Walshe, Tubberclair Co. Westmeath who were married in the Church of Immaculate Conception, Tubberclair, Co. Westmeath on Saturday, 29 December. A reception for family and friends followed in the Shearton Hotel Athlone. Congratulations to Gerard McBrien, son of Tommy and Maura, (Londis Supermarket), Granard and Toneymore, Abbeylara and Audrey Maguire, Clonsilla, Dublin who were married on 28 December in St. Colmcille’s Church, Kells. Congratulations to Eugene Lynch, Kilbride, Abbeylara and Julie Butler, Culvin, Streete, Co. Westmeath who were married in St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara on 31 December. A reception for family and friends followed in the Slieve Russell Hotel, Ballyconnell. We wish all these young couples every blessing for the future.

Recent Deaths: The death of Teresa Croke (nee Smith) Ballinacross Granard occurred at her daughter’s residence in Highgate, London on 26 December. Removal took place from Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Friday 4 January to St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her husband Jimmy, sons James and Paul, daughter Helen, son in law Adrian, grandchildren and extended family. May she rest in peace. The untimely death of Rose Gregory, (nee Gaffney), Springtown, Granard, occurred at her residence on 3 January. Her body reposed at her late residence until removal to St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara on Sunday evening. Funeral Mass on Monday, 7 January. Sympathy is extended to her brothers, John Gaffney, Ferriskill, Granard and Joe in England, nieces nephews in-laws and a wide circle of friends. May she rest in peace. The death of Molly Harten, (nee Smith), Pottlebawn, Kilcogy, occurred unexpectedly at her residence on 3 January. Removal took place from Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran on Saturday last. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday, followed by burial in local cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her sons Henry and Patrick, her grandchildren, daughters-in-law, relatives and many friends.
