Tidy Towns: Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our Chairman Johnny Flynn. Congratulations to our two very hardworking members Eileen and Eugene Prunty who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary recently. Well done to Clonguish Hurlers who won the county final. If any of those fit lads from the team would like an extra bit of training we will provide it when our digging and planting starts!! Continuation of our Adjudication Report and as can be seen from this there is still lots of room for improvement but we’ll keep trying. Landscaping:31/50 There are various well maintained mature landscaped areas throughout the village. The adjudicator noted your colourful planters and thought the purple planters are more pleasing on the eye than the blue ones. Planting at the chapel was admired. Furthermore the seating and landscaped area on the Sligo approach is attractive. The three mature trees and green area on front of Eden House B&B is to be admired and the owners are to be commended for maintaining this prominent area of the village to such a high standard. The village pump is looking well. We note that you are working with the local primary schools, perhaps encourage the children to plant varieties suitable for pollinators to encourage greater biodiversity to the area. Litter Control: 27/50 You are busy under this category – well done. On adjudication day, a small amount of litter such as an ice pop wrapper, a water bottle and a tissue were noted on the main street. Bins were full in a few places but this can be expected on a Bank Holiday Monday and rest assured you have not been penalised for this. Tidiness:16/30 The adjudicator is glad the large advertising sign on the side of Bohan’s bar has been left blank as this is just too oversized in comparison to the size of the gable wall for a rural village, could this be removed? Perhaps over time the committee could liaise with the owner in relation to painting this building a more muted colour. A few areas in relation to tidiness are brought to your attention, including weeding of the footpath in front of the old convent school and Castle Crescent would benefit from painting. Footpaths in some areas on the village are in bad need of repair but you recognise this; continue with your liaisons with the local authority with regard to this matter. Your sign at the bus shelter is very informative but the protective covering has seen better days, these signs are throughout the County and most are all in a similar state. The derelict site beside the old convent is noticeable to the passer-by, perhaps if the gates here were solid rather than metal bars this would screen-off the site to the passer-by MORE NEXT WEEK.........
