ACTIVE AGE: Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age had an unusual workshop recently – all about shoes entitled sole to soul:you do the walkin’,let your shoes do the talkin! Susie Minto workshop leader (who is also a story teller and writer had asked us all to bring in a pair of shoes that had particular meaning for us- wedding shoes dancing shoes walking shoes – any footwwar that might have a ‘story ‘to tell. Susie told us so some stories relating to her own shoes ,they were well travelled ,been to other countries with her and kept her warm and comfortable on numerous walks and hikes here in Ireland as well as other parts of the world. Sadly they were now worn out but those shoes served as a reminder to her of places visited and people she had met over the years. Members had shoes and runners with their own stories and memories - everything from very special runners that had helped in the recovery of a broken ankle ,to gardening boots now well worn which provided their owner with memories of the trials and tribulations of a garden created from land covered in rushes that had once been a potatoe field. Susie sowed all sorts of seeds in our minds - shoes certainly do resurrect long forgotten memories and who knows maybe they even ‘talk to each other.
