Mostrim & District Vintage Club held a very successful Tractor Run on Sunday, August 5 last. The event which was the fourth organised by the club since its inception, will provide some much needed funds for local organisations, which in the past have included St Christopher’s Services and national services such as Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
To date, over €50,000 has been raised by Mostrim & District Vintage Club for charities and this year’s event will assist Edgeworthstown District Development Ltd and Rath Mhuire & Dolmen Services, which is based in nearby Granard.
“The club is going strong with over 30 members, all of whom are very dedicated to fundraising and helping out those that assist locally in our communities,” Chairman, Michael O’Neill explained.
Before the much anticipated Run, earlier in the month, proceedings kicked off in earnest with registration and breakfast at 10am in the Mostrim Arms Hotel. Participants then geared themselves up for an event that saw them passing through villages and parishes including Streete, Lismacaffrey, Granard, Coolarty and Edgeworthstown. A well deserved break was had by all at Rath Mhuire Community Centre in Granard and a BBQ was held at McElvaney’s of Coolarty, sometime later. Upon arrival in Edgeworthstown, there was a great welcome back for participants and a free raffle was also held in honour of all those involved in the Run. “Safety is very important to the club and new guidelines were drawn up for all participants to follow on the day,” Mr O’Neill added. “We have always enjoyed a great day on our annual run and this year was no different; it was very successful and everyone enjoyed the event immensely.
Safety is our number one priority and all involved helped us to achieve a fun-filled and safe day out for everyone. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our sponsors who donated spot prizes and contributed towards the food and thanks also to the gardaí who organised traffic along the route.”
The cheque presentations to the charities will take place in late September when all monies raised have been collected. A DVD of the day and photographs are currently being edited and will be available on the presentation night. All outstanding sponsorship cards should be returned to organisers as soon as possible.
