GAA: On Sunday morning last Arva had Drumgoon as visitors to Michael Cully Park for Round 8 in the Brady’s Arva VW Division 1B League and after a hard fought encounter the home side emerged victorious on a score of 3-9 to 2-8. After a hard night’s rain the pitch was in great shape although the surface was slippy which lead to some mistakes on both sides. The visitors were minus the services of a number of first choice players which didn’t help their cause. Arva were first off the mark with 2 points from Kevin Bouchier (a free 2mins / play 3 mins) while in the 5th minute Ciaran Brady was pulled down in the square and Jonathan McCabe made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 5th minute. Drumgoon hit back with points in the 7th & 8th minute but McCabe and Bouchier replied for Arva in the 9th & 15th mins. The visitors hit 2 more points in the 15th / 16th mins while Conal Sheridan hit a free for Arva (19th min). after a good attacking play a shot from Conal Sheridan hit the upright but the inrushing Dermot Mc Glade hit the rebound to the net. Drumgoon had the last score of the half with a point in the 24th minute to leave the half time score 2-5 to 0-5 in favour of the home side. Drumgoon hit he ground running after the restart and had the ball in the Arva net in the 33rd minute to reduce the deficit. Kevin Bouchier pointed for Arva (36 mins) but the visitors hit 2 points (38 & 40 min). Jonathan Mc Cabe (43 min) and a Conal Sheridan free (45 min) left 4 points in it again and we had no score for the next 8 minutes and this was a major one for Drumgoon as they rattled the Arva net (53 min)to leave just a point between the sides. Arva were determined not to lose this game and Peter Morris hit the Drumgoon net 2 minutes later and the sides exchanged points with Mc Cabe on target for Arva (57 min) and Drumgoon closing the scoring (58 min). Arva team and scorers – Shane Mc Entee, Shane Finnegan, James Morris, Stephen Ellis, Paul Bouchier, Ciaran Brady, Thomas Brady, Cian Sheridan, Fergal Mc Glade, Jonathan Mc Cabe (1-3), Kevin Bouchier (0-4), Peter Morris (1-0), Ciaran Cooney, Dermot Mc Glade (1-0), Conal Sheridan (0-2).
