In preparation for the commemoration of 1916 next year, a local group has put together a small commemorative evening, which will take place following Mass at 7.30pm on Friday 4th September. With United Irishmen marching from the bridge on the Aughnacliffe road to the commemorative monument on Bully’s Acre, where a wreath will be placed to remember those who were executed on this site. They will then march to the Sean MacEoin monument, where Padraic Pearse’s oration at O’Donovan Rossa’s funeral will be read. We are looking for volunteers on the evening to march in the dress of that period. Anyone interested please contact Micheál Carrigy.
