Best wishes to Deacon Seamus O’Rourke who will be ordained to the Priesthood in St. Mel’s Cathedral on this Sunday, 21st June. Seamus is brother of Sean O’Rourke, Cloonagh.

Cemetery Mass

On Saturday evening last assisted by Fr. Peter Beglan and Fr. Simon Cadam Fr. Fitzpatrick celebrated Mass in the local cemetery. As usual a large congregation was present. Fr. Fitzpatrick welcomed everyone and expressed his appreciation to all who helped out on the occasion. We compliment everyone for their effort and time in having plots and cemetery looking so well.

Community Games

Well done to all the boys and girls who participated in the county finals on Sunday last. In brilliant sunshine there were some very competitive races. Congratulations are in order for Rachel Gillian and Cian O’Donnell on attaining gold. They will represent Longford at the All Ireland finals in August. We wish them well. We also compliment Rose Hanlon and Liam Fagan on bringing home silver and bronze respectively.

Cake Sale

Appreciation to all who supported the cake sale in aid of the community centre on Saturday night. With the generosity of all who donated there was a great variety of goodies to choose from. Thanks to all who helped out on the night.

The Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s Services Ltd would like to thank everyone who contributed to their annual church gate collection. The amount raised was €174.83. Your generosity is very much appreciated.


We remind all in the village that adjudication for this years tidy towns competition will take place in the coming weeks. It is important to keep weeds and hedges under control. All are requested to be conscious of litter in the village and on the approach roads to the village. Your support in this area would be very much appreciated.

Summer Camps

There will be two fun-filled, multi-activity sports camps at Mullinalaghta football pitch this Summer. Camp 1 is for 4-7 year olds and is running from Monday 10th to Friday 14th August each day from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Camp 2 will cater for 8-12 year olds and will be in operation from Monday 17th August – Friday 21th August from 10.00am – 3.00pm. Activities include a variety of sports but also other events such as Balloon Races, Treasure Hunt, Art, Crafts, Bouncy Castle and many more. Cost of either camp is €50 per child with 2nd, 3rd, 4th child only €40. All children will be fully covered by insurance for everything taking place. Lotto Draw

St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto in the Angler’s Rest on Wednesday 10th June. The numbers drawn were 1, 19, 26, 29 with the Jackpot of €7,850 remaining intact. Consolation prizes of €20 went to D.P. Finnegan, Cloonagh. Anne Earley, Cloonagh. Thomas O’ Reilly, Loughduff. Orla Denning, Derrycasson and Michael Keegan, Clooneen. Ladies Footballers

As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local post office or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday night’s main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are now due for renewal at €50 each by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The winning number on Saturday 13th June was 27.
