National School

Enrolment for First Confession (Penance) and First Holy Communion takes place on Saturday, 31st January in Abbeylara Church at the 7.30pm Mass. Prayerful good wishes to the following pupils of 2nd class; Padraig Brady, James Briody, M J. Kelly and Paul Lynch, who will be enrolled for these Sacraments.

Saint Vincent de Paul

The official opening of our new shop will take place on Saturday, January 31st. There will be lots of bargains available! The committee would like to thank everyone for your generosity and support and assure you that all donations received will go to people in need in the Granard/ Abbeylara/Mullinalaghta and Ballinalee areas.

Clonfin Commemoration

The annual Clonfin Commemoration Ceremony will take place on this Sunday, February 1st starting with Mass for deceased members in St. Mary’s Church in Granard  at 11.30am followed by the ceremony at the site in Clonfin at 3.00pm and refreshments in McElvaney’s, Coolarty afterwards. The organizing committee are looking forward to a large crowd attending and all are welcome.

Triple P Programme

The first workshop to be held as part of the Triple P Parenting Programme for parents of children aged seven and under will be held on Wednesday, January 28, between 10.00am and 12pm at Longford Library. Enrolment for September 2015

Volunteers required

Storytelling

An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office, Main Street, Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €19,100. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

‘Check it Fits’ Service

The ‘Check it Fits’ Service is a full time, nationwide, free expert service which aims to put patents, grandparents and guardians mind at ease that their child’s car seat is safely and securely fitted in their car. The service is quick, it’s easy, it’s free and it will arrive in Longford where our experts will advise you on how to fix any problem, demonstrate how to fit the restraint correctly and answer any queries participants might have. We will be visiting the following location in Longford – Supervalu, Main Street, Edgeworthstown 5 February at 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Cycle and Climb

The 5th Annual Glenn Brady Memorial Cycle and Climb will take place on Sunday, May 31st. This unique event is challenging and most rewarding, with 147km cycle and a 3-3.5 hour climb on Croagh Patrick. So there is plenty of time to train and we will look forward to another very successful day on May 31st. Details on Registration will be available in the coming weeks.

Yoga & Mindfulness for Exam Students

As the studies increase and the exams approach Lus na Greine are hoping to offer a number of specific yoga and Mindfulness classes for young people. If you feel you would benefit from these please call into the centre or telephone 043 6660977.

First Aid Classes

Longford Women’s Link is now taking registration for First Aid Refresher class on Saturday January 31st and Occupational First Aid starting February 2nd. Students may qualify for funding for the above courses. For further information please contact Longford Women’s Link on 043 3341511.

2015 Irish Vintage Society

Streete Parish Park will host the 2015 Irish Vintage Society All-Ireland on Sunday, July 12. An all-out effort will be made to make this an outstanding event which will not only benefit the parish of Streete but also the counties of Westmeath and Longford. Charity Event

Charity Event held on 28 December 2014 has now closed. Amount raised €1,440. Many thanks for your generosity. Longford Hospice received €1,190. Irish Cancer Society received €250.

Community Games

The AGM of the Abbeylara/Mullinalaghta Community Games will take place this Friday night in the Handball Alley at 9.00pm sharp. Last year was a great year for the Community Games with alot of medals and cups coming back. We would like to build on this and it can’t be done without the help from the parents. See you all on Friday!
