Congrats to Maryann Lynch and Paddy Hanley on making the final of Longford Youth Factor. Maryann and Paddy are regulars in the Ardagh folk choir and have won many county titles with Scór and Community Games Ballad groups. They want to thank all those who have taken the time to come in and support and vote for them. The final is Saturday night, January 31st in the Temperance Hall. Hope lots of people will come out to support our talented Ardagh youngsters.
This was a very busy weekend for all with four teams taking part in the indoor soccer in Kenagh and also the handwriting competition being held. There were two boys U13, one girls U13 and one girls U10. First up on Saturday morning was U13 boys team of Jack Gallagher, Daniel Hayden, Diarmuid Farrell, Cathal Farrell, Cathal Keenan and Ronan Keenan. They met Killoe and despite a tight match they were unable to defeat them. The second U13 boys team of Dylan Fay, Shane Quinn, Jack Mulleady, Adam Reilly, Ronan Sheahan, Brendan Finnan and Cian Hartmann were up against Longford South. The Ardagh team showed great skill in the match and progressed to the second round where the played Lanesboro. This was a very tight match and put Ardagh to the test but they secured victory and progress to the semi-final’s on 7th of of February. Our U13 girls team of Melissa O’Kane, Katie Quinn, Sarah McPhillips, Anna Hayden, Keeva Gillen, Claragh Shannon, Kate Halpin and Katie Lynch met Kenagh in their first round match. The girls played a great match showing great skill and even our f/t goalie getting outfield to score a goal. They beat Kenagh and will now play Mostrim in the semi final. Our U10 girls team of Dimity Bladen, Rachel Fallon, Ciara Brier, Sian Gallagher, Evie O’Rourke Grant, Emma Farrell and Katie Duignan played their match against a strong Longford South team who they were unable to defeat. They are most definitely a team to watch for future competitions. Well done to all competitors and good luck to all the teams in their future matches. Our U10 and U12 handwriting competition was also held at the weekend. It was great to see so many children taking part in the competition. Lots of budding novelists in AMG. The results will be available shortly and the winner’s contacted. The county competition is on Monday 2nd February at 6.30 pm in St Matthews N.S. Ballymahon. There will be two girls and two boys in U10 and U12 going forward from the area. Please keep that date for your diary. The table quiz was postponed due to the bad weather and there has been no new date set for it. We will keep you updated. The Tag Rugby competition takes place, weather permitting in Longford Rugby club commencing at 11.30 am on 8th February. The Art and Model Making competition is taking place in St Emer’s N.S on 28th February commencing at 10am. The winners of the art competition will be contacted shortly to check your availability to take part in the competition. The Table Tennis training is continuing every week in Ardagh Community Centre under the watchful eye of Barry Callan.
