Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Monday, 10th November. Jackpot €7,300 – Numbers drawn 4 / 7 / 27 / 29 – No winner. €50 each – Martin Brennan, Cortober, Arva. Darius Asmonas, Gowna. Fiona Gallagher, Cavan. The Jackpot on Monday night last 17th November was €7,350. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. Awards: Arva have two players nominated for the Cavan County Board Junior Player of the Year Award at the Annual Awards night in the Kilmore Hotel on this Friday night. Jonathan McCabe and James Morris are joined by Liam Buchannan Goldrick from Ballymachugh as the three nominees. Also on the night the Ulster U-21 Championship, Leinster Junior Championship and All Ireland Junior Championship Medals will be presented. James and Peter Morris will collect a Leinster Junior Championship Medal and an All Ireland Junior Championship Medal, Jonathan McCabe and Kevin Bouchier will collect an Ulster U 21 Medal while Ciaran Brady will collect an Ulster U-21, Leinster Junior and All Ireland Junior medal in what should be a fantastic night. This is a great achievement for these players and we congratulate them on their successes to date. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Club Secretary Eddie Ward ASAP as tickets are limited. The Senior and Intermediate Player of the Year will also be announced on the night while Martin Reilly, Killygarry has been selected as the Club Breffni “Senior County Player of the Year”. Martin’s father Padraig hails from nearby Enaughan. Race Nite: The Arva GAA Club are holding a Race Nite on 26th December and members are looking for people to support their efforts. It should be a great evenings craic with hopefully lots of people home for the Festive Season and it will provide an ideal opportunity to meet up with old friends. Horses are on sale at €20 each. Congratulations are extended to James Morris, Ciaran Brady and Jonathan McCabe who were selected on the Breffni All Stars team and also Ciaran Brady Snr who was selected as the Manager of the Year. The function on Saturday night last in the Cavan Crystal Hotel was a huge success and was organised by the Munterconnacht GAA Club. U 21 Championship: St Joseph’s defeated West Cavan Gaels in the Quarter Final of the Under 21 Championship on Sunday last on the 3G Pitch in Kingspan Breffni Park on a score 1-12 to 0-14. This was a fantastic game with some of the best young players in the county on view and it was close all through except for a brief spell early in the second half when West Cavan Gaels went 4 points clear by the 43rd minute. However St Josephs stirred themselves and with 5 unanswered points between the 45th and 57th minutes put a point clear. They also had the next point in the 30th minute while West Cavan replied in the 62nd minute to leave St Josephs ahead at the long whistle. The game was a credit to both set’s of players and was played in true championship spirit with no quarter asked or given. St Josephs will now meet Castlerahan on the weekend 28th – 30th November. Hospital Visitation

If a family member is sick or in hospital and would like a visit from your local Clergy please let them know and they will be glad to call. Due to patient confidentially the Clergy cannot check hospital lists.

Christmas Lights

Once again Christmas is fast approaching and Arva Area Development Association will be switching on the Christmas Lights early again this year. The Town lights will be switched on - on Friday 5th December. This is to provide an inviting atmosphere for all the community to come and shop local in Arva this Christmas. The Christmas Tree lights will be switched on by Santa on Saturday 13th December at 4pm. The Christmas Tree is kindly provided by Brady’s of Arva. A welcoming group of children and carol singers will greet Santa on his arrival.


The annual general meeting of the Arva /Gowna IFA will be held at 8.30pm on Tuesday night next, 25th November in Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. Guest speaker Tom Ryan, IFA smart farming initiative. All members are requested to attend and new members always welcome.


Arva Foróige Club meetings every Friday in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 7.30pm for second level students.

Line Dancing

The Breffni Kickers Line Dancing Classes continue each Thursday in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva with classes for beginners at 8.30 pm and for the more advanced at 9.30pm. Come along and enjoy a good night of dancing and fun.

Slimming World

Adapted exercise continues each Tuesday morning in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 10 o’clock. Everyone is welcome to attend and take part.

Show Society

Arva Agricultural Show Society wish to thank all our generous Sponsors, Exhibitors, Patrons, Stewards and all those who worked diligently to make our 57th Annual Show a great success. The committee decided to hold the 58th Annual Show on Sunday, 26th July 2015 and look forward to the continued support of all concerned. The Show Society annual general meeting will take place on Thursday, 11th December in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva at 9pm and would ask all members to attend. The committee also invites anyone who would like to become involved in helping to drive the show forward and improving it to come along also.


The Show Committee have also decided to hold a Table Quiz on Friday, 30th January 2015 in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. All support much appreciated.
