To all of you that enjoy Trad music/dancing or wish to partake at any level, the door is open and there is a warm welcome waiting for you at the next Seisiún on Friday, September 19th, 8pm – 9.30pm (slow seisiún) 9.30 onwards (open seisiún). Tá Fáilte roimhe gach duine! A 3k or 6k (your choice) run/walk will take place in Lisryan Village on Sunday, September 28th at 1pm. We hope to raise much needed funds to enable us to purchase items to enhance and enrich our village. The 3/6k will finish with a well-deserved cup of tea in the heart of our village “The Crossroads Inn”. Registration on the day €5 per child and €10 per adult. Calling all households - once again our Saturday morning tidy up will take place every Saturday morning at 11am meeting at the Football pitch and finishing at 12.30. This is the time of year for pruning, planning and general cleaning in preparation for spring. We would be grateful if you could spare any time any Saturday to give a helping hand. Mighty work has already taken place in a short space of time. Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 13th at 9pm. Please come along.

Bonus Ball Draw

Lisryan and District local lotto is going well there are still a few numbers left to purchase, “If you’re not in you can’t win”. Congratulations to those that have won already, someone has been lucky twice! All you have to do is buy a number, €10 for five weeks €20 for ten weeks etc. and if your number is the bonus ball in the main Saturday night lotto draw you win half of what is in the pot. There is a winner every week. Last weeks’ bonus ball was 26 – winner was Dympna Murphy.

Parent & Toddler (P&T) Childminders Grants

The Parent and Toddler Group Initiative is a nationally available fund from POBAL/Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA). Parent and Toddler groups (P&T’s) are organised on a not for profit basis and encourage parent participation in childhood development and support, a kind of peer support. Grants will range from €100 to €800 for existing P&T’s, with up to €1,000 for new start-ups. Funding is available for equipment, training, materials for activities and minor refurbishments. The New Childminder Grant criteria apply if you are minding or intend to mind 2 children, minimum 1 Full Time and 1 Part Time. You must voluntarily notify with HSE and you must not have received a grant previously. You must give undertaking to attend training and network with other minders. You must provide a service for 2 years after receiving the funding. It is recommended that only 1/3 of funding is spent on consumables like paint, sand and materials for crafts. Talent contest CU Factor

Granard Credit Union launches Talent contest CU factor - Have you got the CU factor, if yes you could be on your way to winning the top prize of €500 courtesy of Granard Credit Union. Ten to nineteen year olds in Granard area are being invited to share their talents as part of a new talent competition in the area organised by Granard Credit Union. The talent show is open to all dancers, singers, bands, jugglers, comedy acts etc . The closing date for applications is 25th September 2014. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th September and the local final will take place in Granard Community Centre on Saturday 4th October. The top two acts will go forward to represent Granard Credit Union in the regional final on Saturday the 18th October in Ballinasloe with a top prize of €1000. Application forms are available from the counter in Granard Credit Union.

Streete Wildlife Club

The duck shooting season got underway on the 1st September last with most members having a good days shooting as it seems that ducks are plentiful in most areas. The club is continuing to work on its game development for 2014 and it’s hoped to release about 200 pheasants over the next few weeks and also set up a number of feeding stations throughout the parish which will be a benefit to all wild birds over the winter months. All members are asked to attend a club general meeting on this Thursday night, September 11th in the Crossroads Inn, Lisryan at 9pm.
