The Irish Cancer Society provide a number of free services to cancer patients and their families when they need it most. By supporting Daffodil Day we are ensuring that these services can be continued and that no one has to face cancer alone. This Friday 27 March is Daffodil Day but due to other commitments and with the kind permission of the owners collections will take place at SuperValu Granard and McBrien’s Supermarket on tomorrow Thursday 26 March. Our aim is to promote creative writing in an enjoyable and relaxed environment and new members are always welcome.

The club had a visit to the newly refurbished St. Mel’s Cathedral Longford on Tuesday 24 March and really enjoyed the experience.

Granard Pitch and Putt club held their AGM on 9 March in St. Mary’s GAA Club House. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Chairperson: Roy Burke, Vice Chairperson: Benny Fay, Secretary: Linda Higgins, Treasurer: Raymond Fay, PRO: Noel Kelly, Registrar: Richard Burke, Competition Secretary: Roy Burke, Juvenile Officer: Raymond Fay. County Longford Tourism
County Longford Tourism Committee are holding their A.G.M. in Granard Library on Tuesday 14 April at 11.30am. The A.G.M is open to the public and all interested parties are invited to attend. An update on tourism in the county will be given as well as a synopsis of plans for 2015. Refreshments will be served in the library after the event.

Granard Easter Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday 4th and 5th April. A fun filled action packed weekend is in store for everyone. Historical walk on Saturday Morning at 11.00am with local guide Jimmy Donoghue starting at the Credit Union building and finishing at the Motte; a Grueling 5k run on Saturday afternoon at 3.00pm sponsored by Durkin Podiatry Granard commencing at Kiernan Milling Ballinalee Road with the Finish Line on Main Street there will be €500 in prizes. At 9.30pm on Saturday night a not to be missed Novelty “Granard’s Grand National” kindly sponsored by Paul Fay Bookmakers. Easter Parade on Sunday staring from Granard Mart Car Park at 2.30pm followed by Street Entertainment for children and Live Music with Pascal Liz and Davy. The death of Tony Corcoran, Castle Park, Newtownforbes, formerly of Ballymore, Granard occurred suddenly at his residence on Thursday last. His body reposed at the family home until removal on Sunday to St. Mary’s Church, Newtownforbes for funeral Mass followed by burial in local cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his beloved wife Margaret, (nee Drake), sons Enda, Bob, Anthony, Paddy and Ciaran, daughters Elaine and Therese, daughter-in-law Ciara, grandchildren, his brothers Pat and Vincent, sister Mary and the extended family circle. May he rest in peace.
