Active Age Snippets

There was an attendance of seventeen at last Wednesday’s weekly meeting. The following items were on the agenda: A letter from Leitrim

Development Company, which will be further discussed at this week’s meeting; the appointment of members to attend the Forum in Cloone on Wednesday at 3pm; the Pitch and Putt outing date to Cornafean, which has been fixed for Tuesday, July 8 at 3pm; reviews of the coach outing to Donegal and the Cornageeha Social. The meeting ended with a modern version of the game of “twenty five”!!

Recalling July 1992

Drumreilly Annual Sports was held in glorious sunshine in Páirc Droim Oir Bhealaigh. Rev Stanley Johnston was instituted as Rector of

Kildallan-Newtowngore-Corrawallen parish. St Mary’s Youth Band played at the Garden Fete and Bazaar in Áras Breifne, Manorhamilton. Forty nine members of the Band enjoyed the coach outing to Butlin’s Holiday Camp. Drumreilly Senior Citizens also enjoyed a trip to Bundoran. Wedding bells rang in St Mary’s Church, Drumlea for Brendan Sweeney, Ballinamore and Marie McGovern, Kinkeen. Congratulations were in order for Paddy and Eileen McGovern, Ardra on the birth of their baby daughter. Aidan Holahan, Martin McCartin and Pat Connolly were members of the Leitrim U-21 team beaten by Galway. Drumreilly successfully negotiated the first round of the Leitrim Senior Championship with a 2-15 to 1-4 win over Aughnasheelin. Victory over Melvin Gaels, Drumkeerin and Dromahaire paved the way to the U-12 Championship final against Drumkeerin, whom they beat by 3-14 to 0-4 in Drumshanbo on August 7. The team was Karl Gallogly, Pat Gannon, Raymond Holahan, Anthony Mimna, Gary Maxwell (0-1), Jarlath Prior, Tony Lunney (0-3), Declan Maxwell, John McKeon (0-2), Ciaran Conlon (1-1), Mattie Fee, Eugene Wynne (2-3), James Holahan (0-3). Subs used: Adrian McGirl (0-1), Damian Holahan and Gavin Beirne. The deaths took place of former PP of Carrigallen-Drumreilly Very Rev John Malachy Byrne, Toome-born eighty two years old Thomas Reilly, Carrigallen, and

nonagenarian Mrs Annie Mitchell, Manchester and formerly Kinkeen. RIP.

Lotto Draw Results

There was no Jackpot winner in the Lotto Draw held in Lawrence’s Bar on June 18. The following were the numbers drawn: 1, 2, 10 and 16. The winners of cash prizes were Ray Fee, Mullaghboy; Geraldine McHugh, Boeshill; Mary McKeon, Drumlea; Seán Corrigan, Newtowngore; Mary Harte, Ballinamore; Claire Flynn, c/o Pat Joe’s; and Martin Conway, Aughnasheelin. The next Draw with a Jackpot of €2,100 will be held in Shortt’s Bar, Ballinamore.

Farm Open Day

The Irish Holstein Friesian Association National Open Day will be held in Taylor’s Farm, Clonboyher on Wednesday next July 9.

Minor Final

There was disappointment for Conor Gaffney and the other members of the Leitrim Minor team after they were beaten in a well-contested Connacht Minor League semi-final by Roscommon.
